Principally recorded at D.A.R.P. Studios, Atlanta, Georgia; Daddy's House Recording Studios, Unique Recording Studios and The Hit Factory, New York, New York.
Establishing themselves not only as new artists but as new songwriters, the four singers in 112 introduce their self-titled debut with a number of ballads and slowed-down grooves that focus on love and life. The smooth sound of their music blends perfectly with their four-part harmonies. With the support of Bad Boy Entertainment founder and producer Sean "Puffy" Combs, and occasional appearances by labelmates Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G., 112's songs sound like easy pop hits. "Only You" and "Come See Me" are aimed at the club scene, while "Call My Name" and "Can I Touch You" work best at home with the lights dimmed.
With a big push from industry mogul Puff Daddy (who helped out with writing and producing the album, in addition to putting it out on his Bad Boy label), 112's debut became a romantic soul hit upon its release in 1996. A quartet that specialize in close harmonies and a light, hip-hop-influenced urban contemporary sound, 112 bear more than a passing resemblance to Boyz II Men, but this detracted from neither their obvious talents nor their record sales.
The group's self-titled first effort is arguably its best. From the cover image of a dapper-looking foursome in white suits to the love-themed slow jams that fill the disc, 112's debut epitomizes the clean, respectable boy group. "Only You," the album's lead-off single, with its addictive, low-end groove, remains a highlight.

112 album
$8.99 On ALL THAT I AM, Joe offers 12 tracks of slow, smooth R&B stylings, with diverse arrangements and creative performance, all centered around the breathy, earnest voice of Joe Thomas. In addition to his multi-tracked vocal arrangements, Joe also makes substantial keyboard, programming, and production contributions.
Lyrically, the album ranges from the swaggering bravado of "The Love Scene" to the emotional vulnerability of "No One Else Comes Close." Not wanting to fall back on R&B cliches, Joe opts for a fresher metaphor--"I hear he' s got you in lockdown, but I got the master key" ["All The Things (Your Man Won't Do)"]. ALL THAT I AM features some impressive production tricks including the reverse loop intro to "U Shoulda Told Me (U had A Man)," the flanged vocal effects of "Don't Wanna Be A Player" and exotic instrumental samples throughout.
Recorded at The Crib, Maplewood, New Jersey; The Crib, Clinton, New Jersey; On The Way Studios, Cleveland, Ohio; Battery Studios, and The Soundtrack Group, New York, New York.
Producers include: Joe Thomas, Joshua Thompson, Edwin Nichols, Rodney Jerkins, Gerald Levert.

| | Boyz II Men Evolution CD (1997)
112 CD music
$10.39 EVOLUTION was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
EVOLUCION contains Spanish language versions of Boyz II Men songs.
EVOLUTION proves to be a rather prophetic title for this release from the famed R&B quartet. The album finds Boyz II Men growing musically and emotionally, and all the songs here demonstrate the added depth that is the result of the group's artistic maturation. One thing that hasn't changed is the silky-smooth harmonies that are the band's trademark. Their elegantly intertwining voices lead you gently through ballads about both good times and bad. The production is state-of-the-art as usual, underlining the strength of the material. EVOLUTION finds the boys strutting their stuff as full-grown men.
Recorded at Stonecreek Studios, Gladwyne, Pennsylvania; Brandon's Way Recording, The Record Plant, and Studio 56 (B-Funk Lab), Los Angeles, California; Flyte Tyme Studios, Edina, Minnesota.

| | Notorious B I G Life After Death CDs (1997)
112 music CDs
$18.65 LIFE AFTER DEATH was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. "Hypnotize" was nominated for a 1988 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. "Mo Money Mo Problems" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group.
The double-CD LIFE AFTER DEATH arrives in stores, ironically and tragically, less than three weeks after the Notorious B.I.G. was killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. Biggie Smalls, as he was known, quickly became one of rap's most respected MCs after the 1994 release of his debut album, READY TO DIE. His music sparked the comeback of East Coast hip-hop, while his very being added fire to rap's over-publicized East-West rivalry. For some (see "Playa Hater"), Biggie's success was too much to handle, and he became a primary target in hip-hop's continuing feud. Never feeding into that war on wax, B.I.G. chose to remain silent, until LIFE AFTER DEATH became a reality, and the situation spoke for itself.
Although song titles like "You're Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You)" eerily mirror the real-life tragedy, the music on LIFE AFTER DEATH serves to bring the Notorious B.I.G. back to life. As anything that he appeared on, the production (by a superstar conglomerate including Sean "Puffy" Combs and the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA) is top-notch, and his lyrical skills are razor sharp. Biggie was loved for his versatility. On "Notorious Thugs," he switches up his style to rhyme like a member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Tracks like "Hypnotize" showcase his ability to be hardcore and commercial at the same time. Another talented rapper lost ...
| | Room 112 CD (1998)
112 songs
$11.99 Produced by hitmaker Sean "Puffy" Combs, 112's second album comes on strong from the get-go. As its title track intro states, ROOM 112 features heavily layered, intricately arranged vocals against a backdrop of slickly produced compositions. From the frank, confessional "So Much Love," to the sensuous groove of "Someone To Hold," ROOM 112 tends towards the slower, more romantic end of the R&B spectrum.
Combs calls on a few celeb pals to lend a hand on ROOM 112, including Faith Evans, whose confident vocal stylings grace "For Awhile," and Lil' Kim, who contributes her trademark take-no-prisoners rap to "The Only One," the album's hardest track. MJG is featured on "Whatcha Gonna Do," a ballad of love gone wrong, with an almost ethereal backing track.
Additional personnel includes: Zane Copeland, Jr., Mase, Lil' Kim, 8-Ball, MJG (rap vocals); Faith Evans (vocals); Arnold Hennings (various instruments); Ali Boudris (guitar); J-Dub (strings); Kris Kellow (keyboards, programming).
Producers include: J-Dub, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Daron Jones, Mario Winans, Steven "Stevie J" Jordan.

| | Dru Hill CD (1996)
112 album
$9.69 Dru Hill is a new-jack soul quartet that follows mentor Keith Sweat's lead on its debut album. Paeans to Herculean late-night exploits and calls of soul-cleaning devotion are interspersed over old-fashioned soul licks, delivered with modern R&B technology. At times, as on "Tell Me," the low and high roads to a heart co-mingle in a fashion that would make Prince envious. But Dru Hill seldom reaches the Minneapolitan's funky musical raunch. Instead, Sisqo, Woody, Nokio and Jazz choose to be smooth like butter: all rich harmonies, laid-back finger snaps and synthesized harps.
Additional personnel includes: Triip (rap vocals); Nate-Love, Ralph B. Stacy (various instruments); Frank Camdel (guitar); Kim Jordan, Stanley Brown, Benjamin Love (keyboards); Allen "Grip" Smith (keyboards, programming); Ronnie Garrett, Lance Hinesman, Zack Scott (bass); Nathaniel Townsley (drums); Spike (percussion); Bobby Crawford, Daryl Simmons, Michael Aharon, Big Mike, Tom Salta (programming).
Producers include: Nokio, Stanley Brown, Keith Sweat, Buttnaked Tim Dawg, Terence Dudley.
Engineers include: Chris Lighty, Russell Elevado, Mike Tarsia.

| | 112 Part III CD (2001)
112 CD music
$11.99 "Peaches & Cream" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
The 4-part harmony of Bad Boy's vocal group 112 can catch any listener's ear, and when they're matched with some of R&B's hottest producers, the quartet can do no wrong. On their third album PART III, 112's songs serve two timeless purposes: to highlight their singing abilities, and to make people dance.
Though "It's Over Now" recycles the background to the Mobb Deep classic "Quiet Storm," 112's vocals add another dimension to the familiar beat. And on "Dance With Me," they provide yet another hot club song for the ladies. But ultimately it's their ballads that have the most impact, on songs like "I Surrender," and "Do What You Gotta Do."
Producers: Daron Jones, Mario "Yellow Man" Winans, Anthony Dent, R. Kelly, Lensky Brothers.
Engineers: Robert Hankerson, Brian Smith, Rob Paustian.
Personnel: Daron Jones, Marvin, Mike, Q (vocals); Tom Martin (guitar); Andy Haller, Brian Smith , Roger Che, Rob Paustian, Wayne Allison, Ian Mereness (recorder); DJ Scratch, DJ Wiz (scratches).
