The voice of Colm Wilkinson The voice of Colm Wilkinson - what can one say? ‘Tis grand. Colm Wilkinson has a grand voice, a magnificent voice. All the tracks on ‘Stage Heroes’ may not be everyone’s favorite songs - but if it’s Colm’s voice that one wants a record of - then this CD must be the top of the list. His sensational ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables and ‘Music of the Night’ from Phantom are two of the highlights on the CD. Both of these songs are ‘Colm’ songs - no other artist has captured so movingly the essence they seek to reflect. But that is Colm’s gift - the ability to bring to a song not simply voice technique or acting ability. Something much more than even a heartfelt rendition of the words is involved here. Colm Wilkinson’s unique gift is a voice that resonates with soul; resonates with what is real, with what is at the core of his own being. No pretense at anything at all. This is a voice that just is. Magnificent in it’s uniqueness.
For those lucky enough to be in Chicago in the autumn - there is the very real possibility of seeing this legendary hero of musical theater back on center stage - in Boublil and Schonberg’s new Irish musical - The Pirate Queen.
