| | Aphex Twin Windowlicker CD Aphex Twin Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
WINDOWLICKER is an Enhanced CD containing a full audio program as well as the video for the title track using Hyper-LOCK technology.
The photo collage on the cover of WINDOWLICKER should be warning enough to expect the unexpected. The unexpected, in fact, is practically the only thing one can expect from Aphex Twin (also known by his real name: Richard D. James), one of most intelligent and innovative artists in the world of electronica. His formidable imagination has encompassed hardcore techno, drum 'n bass, atmospheric beat-based trance music, and highly ambient compositions of the most alien and delicate nature.
This CD single features two additional tracks that blend the artist's sophisticated ethereal and textural concepts with the beat-based vocabulary of club culture. The breezy, undulating title track (the video for which is included on the disc in enhanced CD-ROM format) segues into the mind-burbling sonic assault of the second cut (its title written out in lengthy mathematical notation). On the last piece, "Nannou," James orchestrates a chorus of rattles and music box chimes to achieve a mesmerizing and creepy rhythmic lullaby. Throughout, shifting rhythmic patterns hold together layered melodic fragments and otherworldly dialogues of sound with a tremendous range in dynamics and tone. These hallmarks of James' art, as always, dazzle and provoke.

| Windowlicker Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) The last minute of track one..... I heard the last minute of track 1 on the movie grandma's boy and it was absolutely brilliant. Dick James, nutball with mad skillz I was unimpressed by the first two tracks (which means they only get listened to twice as much as nearly all the rest of my music) but the third track Nannou blew me away 100%. It is my favorite Aphex Twin track, and I think I have heard most of his work. Submitted by oehl (Urbana, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

Windowlicker album
$20.04 Whereas Alice Cooper's first two studio albums, 1969's PRETTIES FOR YOU and 1970's EASY ACTION, tended more towards the trippy excesses of the hippie era, their next one, 1971's LOVE IT TO DEATH introduced the world to the heavy sound that Cooper would soon be taking to the top. With the invaluable production assistance of future Pink Floyd/Lou Reed cohort Bob Ezrin, LOVE IT TO DEATH proved Alice ...
| | Joe Walsh Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get CD (1973) Gold
Windowlicker CD music
$19.10 "Rocky Mountain Way," the tune that opens Joe Walsh's sophomore release (and remains one of his best-known songs), is a textbook example of Walsh's strengths. The song is driven by a slinky hard rock groove that boasts crunchy, distorted guitars, barrelhouse piano, wiry solos, and a catchy, singalong chorus--proving Walsh's penchant for mixing rock elements and radio-ready accessibility with a sense of wit and fun. The rest of SMOKER YOU DRINK, PLAYER YOU GET follows suit, with the mid-tempo rock ballad "Bookends," the bouncy, Latin-tinged "Happy Ways," and the ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Windowlicker music CDs
$12.95 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something perfectly appropriate for a make-out album like this. Sometimes, Mayer dips too heavily toward the texture, but he can't resist a good, tight melody and builds the bulk of Battle Studies upon them: the elegant "Half of My Heart," the softly soulful "Perfectly Lonely." Here, Mayer is effortlessly seductive and somewhat irresistible, and it's easy to see why the ladies love ...
| | Tom Petty Live Anthology CDs (2009)
Windowlicker songs
$19.19 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology finally provides. Like its closest cousin, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985, Live Anthology almost overcompensates for the long wait by offering almost too much music, cherrypicking highlights from 1978 to 2007. In its simplest incarnation, Live Anthology is a super-affordable, four-disc box set running 48 tracks, which is eight cuts longer than Springsteen's box, plenty long enough for most fans, but in its deluxe version, available only ...

| | Beyonce I Am...Sasha Fierce CD (2008) (Import) Bonus Track; Deluxe Edition; United Kingdom
Windowlicker CD music
$9.99 I AM. SASHA FIERCE represents another change of pace for Beyoncé. Unlike the relatively streamlined, retro-soul inflected B'DAY, I AM... is a sprawling two-disc set designed to reflect two conflicting sides of Beyoncé's musical personality. The first disc sports reflective, sometimes moody ballads, while the second, attributed to Beyoncé's brash alter ego, Sasha Fierce, is loaded with propulsive dance-floor fillers. Except for this stylistic divide, I AM. pays only nominal attention to its supposed concept, focusing instead on a set of excellent, radio-ready songs--neatly avoiding the possibility of I AM. becoming some sort of Chris Gaines-style conceptual disaster. Though the second disc, which boasts the synth-drenched lead single, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," is more immediately gratifying, the impeccably produced ballads of the first disc represent a vast improvement on the often awkward torch songs that weighed down Beyoncé's first solo record.
