Newest member Bubba Hernandez fills the bass (and tuba) chair with furious aplomb--every bit the match for drummer extraordinaire Mitch Marine. Jeffrey Barnes, the man of many wind instruments, flies over this rock solid rhythmic foundation, trading off with frontman (guitar, accordion, vocals) Carl Finch. This is their first album with the sonic breadth to capture what they do without limitation or interference. POLKATHARSIS, along with nearly any of Brave Combo's albums, makes a fine starting point for getting to know this wonderful band.
Following the compilation of early material (MUSICAL VARIETIES), POLKATHARSIS was Brave Combo's first new album for Rounder Records. The dazzling combo comes out swinging with a thunderous cavalcade of drums in the opening of their high-octane take of "The Happy Wanderer." From there out they stick close to the heart of polkas, with a hora or a waltz thrown in here and there to spice up the pot.
Brave Combo: Carl Finch (vocals, guitar, piano, accordion); Bubba Hernandez (vocals, tuba, bass), Jeffrey Barnes ( guitar, saxophone, clarinet, flute, didjeridoo, background vocals), Mitch Marine (drums, washboard, background vocals).

Polkatharsis album
$13.04 It wasn't surprising that the Buggles' second release, Adventures in Modern Recording, didn't meet the expectations that 1980's internationally successful The Age of Plastic set. Both Horn and Downes had been working on several outside projects, including Yes' 1980 release Drama, which severely limited their time, and for the most part, Adventures was a Trevor Horn solo project; Geoff Downes only appears on three tracks. However, many of the criticisms leveled against this outing were unfounded and there is still much to like; several songs, such as the infectious title track, equal The Age of Plastic. Both "Adventures in Modern Recording" and "Inner City," with its lush arrangement and engrossing melody, show off Horn's remarkable production savvy. Horn and Downes collaborations like the sultry "Vermillion Sands" and "I Am a Camera" -- a melancholy, stripped-down version of "Into the Lens," ...
| | Best Of Sade CD (1994)
Polkatharsis CD music
$9.69 Digitally remastered by Tom Coyne (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Nigerian vocalist Sade Adu has carved out a cosmpolitan niche for herself over the past decade, gathering together elements of cool jazz, samba, reggae, funk and pop all under the pastoral umbrella of her suede-and-velvet voice. A pop stylist with a musical universe all her own, Sade has endured and matured over the past decade, seemingly unaffected by changes in taste and fashion--a movement unto herself.
As her most recent single (Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone To Love" from the PHILADELPHIA soundtrack) illustrates, Sade's coy caressing voice speaks more of commitment and trust, of relationships in flux ("Nothing ...

| | Jason Derulo CD (2010)
Polkatharsis songs
$8.34 Even though he began his career writing hits for the likes of Diddy and Sean Kingston, singer/songwriter Jason Derülo always had his eye on becoming a solo performer. His Auto-Ttuned, Imogen Heap-sampling debut single, "Watcha Say," was an infectious, slick, and on-point way launch a career, but his debut album is less satisfying, even with plenty of the same well-crafted, future R&B as his breakthrough tune. As Derulo ...
| | Demon Hunter World Is A Thorn CDs (2010) (Import) With DVD; Deluxe Edition
Polkatharsis album
$28.69 The World Is a Thorn is the sound of Jesus leading his flock down a musical path that was built upon the foundations of hedonism and power (as well as a general fondness for the occult) and staging a coup. Rebellion can go both ways, and Seattle's Demon Hunter is as embarrassed as anyone about Christian rock's well-earned reputation for conjuring up lifeless, cookie-cutter slabs of faith-based treacle that carry the weight of ...

Polkatharsis songs
$11.39 Before he became one of the most sought-after producers in pop music, lending a winning touch to recordings by Madonna, Blur, and others, William Orbit put out a series of three releases: STRANGE CARGO 1, 2, and 3. These largely instrumental recordings mine various trends in the dance and electronic music of the 1990s, incorporating elements of ambient, techno, and electronica, without falling into any particular genre. Orbit's production is clean and spacious, with acoustic guitars, strings, and other touches ...
| | TQ They Never Saw Me Comin' CD (1998)
Polkatharsis album
$7.59 The explicit version of THEY NEVER SAW ME COMING contains six tracks not included on the edited version.
After "Westside," his infectious ode to the West Coast, catapulted him into the spotlight, TQ released his debut THEY NEVER SAW ME COMING, in hopes of cementing his status as one of the up-and-coming faces in the hip-hop game. The eighteen-track album demonstrates that this cat from the west is definitely no one-hit wonder. His voice combines with the beats to take the listener on a smooth and relaxing ride. Of particular note are the collaborations with Erica Vancey ("When I Get Out") and Daz Dillinger and Kurupt ("The Comeback"), sure to convince listeners that TQ is one of the promising and refreshing artists to enter the crowded late-'90s West ...
