| | B-12 Time Tourist CD B-12 Discography of CDs
B12's Mike Golding and Steve Rutter may hail from England, but their hearts are in Detroit. Devotees of the warm, synth-propelled glide and future-rhythm drive particular to such Motor City pioneers as Juan Atkins and Derrick May, Golding and Rutter were actually once missionaries who carried the techno torch and its attendant gospel across the Atlantic. Together with such ardent English crusaders as The Black Dog, As One, and Stasis, B12 built the earliest bridges between suburban British bedrooms and the streets of Techno City, U.S.A.
Following in the propensity that techno artists have for fostering multiple aliases, B12 is actually a collective label for several projects--Cmetric, Redcell, and Musicology. TIME TOURIST, Golding and Rutter's second formal B12 album, transcends these confusing name-game permutations and delivers a solid set of loftily melodic mindscapes, fantastic sci-fi sounds, and fancifully funky rhythms. "Cymetry," a busy, ingeniously orchestrated dance of lunar take-offs and landings, is music for spaceports. Tracks like "Epilion" and "Radiophonic Workshop" suggest dancehall universes where multiple mirror-ball suns cast spangled starlight upon the intertwined rotations of lambent planetary bodies. Time Tourist songs
$11.18 (MP3 Available for Download) With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American ...

Time Tourist music CDs
$10.95 (MP3 Available for Download) The Virgin Prunes Hérésie was originally issued as a beautifully boxed and packaged double-10" EP on the Invitation to Suicide label from France. The label commissioned the band to create a work around the concept of insanity. The box also contained five booklets. It was released just before the band's proper debut album, If I Die, I Die. Disc one is a studio outing, consisting of seven songs. The five-song second disc documented one of the band's live performances in Paris. Herein is the disillusioned aftermath of glam and punk, as the serpent of Goth eats its own tail. What's left is an unfocused preoccupation ...
