Lady Bird album
$13.20 The title of Will Downing's 2009 effort, CLASSIQUE, produced by the artist and Rex Rideout, may be a bit misleading: it is not a compilation but a brand-spanking new collection of contemporary jazz-inflected R&B--in other words, classic Downing. The album's first single, "Something Special"--with its hand drums, loops, and slippery flute flitting around a well-placed, subtle horn section--is at its core a popping midtempo love song. Elsewhere, his cover of Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little Bit More Baby" reveals just how deep the master's influence is on Downing. He may not have the full depth of White's baritone, but he gets close, and his expressiveness and emotional connection to the song make it shine. The completely old-school Marvin Gaye ballad "Baby I'm for Real" features a duet appearance by Phil Perry. It's convincing and utterly gorgeous. But not only do the covers work here; ...

| | Wayman Tisdale Rebound CD (2008) Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Lady Bird album
$14.55 With his eighth album, jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale bounces back (from a bout with bone cancer) with an upbeat, genial, somewhat vocals-oriented set. Tisdale still plucks his electric bass a-plenty and there's an abundance of mellow, easygoing jazz here, but he makes room for some notable guest singers as well. Country music star Toby Keith essays Barry White's classic "Never Give You Up," and the Gap Band's Robert Wilson, Raw J, and gospel singer Marvin Sapp stop by, as does smooth-jazz sax star Dave Koz. As per usual, ...

Lady Bird songs
$16.45 Kristin Barnes can sing the blues as convincingly as she can make you feel like getting together to dance. The lead singer on this CD, she'll have you humming the tunes by the end of the CD. Her rendition of Consider This is reminiscent of Whitney Houston. Chris French's vocal delivery on the song Gratitude will make you sit back and smile with gratitude. Darrell Metcalf's instrumentals on I Am a Twig will make you think of a Dan Fogelberg winter song and picture yourself on a sun-slathered ski slope. Full-Circle Learning music was originally written to help educators present music to students that helps them explore their own convictions and present them to the world, to meaningfully apply their creative gifts in service to humanity. In the process, the artists found that adults loved the songs as much as the youth did. Who knew? The songs were written and produced by author/songwriter Teresa Henkle Langness, who varied the styles to appeal to a broad audience. ...

| | James Savory Surgeon CD (2007)
Lady Bird CD music
$13.15 Born of the ashes of Baltimore punk-influenced, political rockers The Soma Solution, Savory James formed with the intention of placing the focus on cathartic, melodic passion-play.Boiling down the complicated structures of their previous band, Rob and Chris got back to what matters the most to them, making music that they, themselves, can let go to. With the addition of Josh Lundy, formerly of local indie powerhouse Sylvan Screen, the right chemistry was complete. Based on the tumultuous psyche of a world too rotten for the 'nice guys,' Savory James invites the listener into the continuously coping and molting mind of someone trying to escape the world that doesn't care that he cares too much.Neurosis, catharsis, healing, and near-misses for bliss and self-destruction pour over noisy guitars, haunting melodies, and destructive drums that bring the spectacle of self-sadism and uber-masochism to life. One if left with the impression that not only do the members need to make the music, they need to perform it, in a display of public soul-cleansing and self-exorcism.The songs included are part of the ...
