| | Bob Marley Uprising CD (1980) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Thrust CD music
$11.89 Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (2001, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Bob Marley generated a staggering number of great records during his brief time in the world's spotlight. Although he cut his first recordings in the early 1960s, it was not until the 1973 release of CATCH A FIRE that Marley and the Wailers became international stars. Eight years later Marley was dead, a victim of cancer. In between, he recorded eight studio albums and several live albums, all of excellent quality.
UPRISING is Marley's final album, and it's also one of his best. As on all his recordings, Marley's writing displays the gift for melody that helped non-Jamaican audiences gain access to his music even when he was singing about the details of island life and the doctrine of Rastafarianism. The most popular tracks here, "Could You Be Loved" and "Redemption Song," are pop masterpieces, but so too are lesser known tracks "Coming In From The Cold," "Pimper's Paradise," and "Bad Card." And except for "Redemption Song," a stunningly poignant protest song that features only Marley on vocal and acoustic guitar, you can dance to it. What more could you ask for?
Additional Tracks
Recorded at Tuff Gong Studio, Kingston, Jamaica. Originally released on Island (9596).

| | Peter Tosh Bush Doctor CD (1978) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Thrust music CDs
$9.79 Keith Sterling (keyboards); Sly Dunbar (drums, percussion); Larry McDonald, Sticky (percussion).
From his days as one of the original Wailers in the '60s until his violent death at the hands of thieves in 1987, Peter Tosh was one of Jamaican music's most outspoken and controversial artists. Though his former partner Bob Marley never shied away from political or social statements himself, Tosh eschewed Marley's gift for metaphor and parable in favor of such explicitly political slogans as the legendary "Legalize It."
BUSH DOCTOR, widely considered one of Tosh's best solo albums, features the similarly plain-spoken title track, which became one of his signature songs, the seething "Dem Ha Fe Get A Beatin'," and the devotionally Rasta "Soon Come" and "Creation." Other tracks, like "Stand Firm" and "I'm The Toughest," are more general statements of defiance and self-determination but are no less powerful. The music is equally strong and relentless. BUSH DOCTOR is a roots-reggae masterpiece.
Robert Lyn (piano, Fender Rhodes piano, Clavinet, organ, keyboards);
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

| | Reel Big Fish Cheer Up! CD (2002)
Thrust CD music
$9.85 Formed in Southern California in the early '90s, Reel Big Fish has slowly gathered a massive following by virtue of a combination of relentless touring and relentlessly peppy albums, following in the wake of such erstwhile ska/punk bands as No Doubt. While Reel Big Fish lack a front person with the obvious charms of Gwen Stefani, they plough an irresistible Bare Naked Ladies-type furrow with energetic frat-boy anthems such as "Ban the Tube Top" ("beautiful girl, ugly shirt--you are a fashion red alert") and the ska/R&B flavored "Suckers." There's no denying the attraction of sardonic lyrics set to upbeat rhythms, a formula the Fish stick to throughout CHEER UP! that hits home time and again, in songs such as "What Are Friends For," and "Dateless Losers," a self-explanatory frenetic excursion through many solitary Friday nights--("we're not so bad you know, but you won't give us a chance," they whine) that should find an echo in the hearts of dateless Reel Big Fish fans everywhere. With its refusal to take itself too seriously and its irrepressibly smart pop hooks, CHEER UP! is a joyous soundtrack to an endless summer.
Dan Regan (trombone, special effects); Matt Wong (bass).
Recorded at Sound Factory, Paramount Studios, Grand Masters, Hollywood, California, Jake's Place, Studio City, California, Brando's Paradise, San Gabriel, California and World Class Audio, Anaheim, California.

| | Planxty CD (1972)
Thrust songs
$14.29 Planxty are known both for their ability to perform great versions of traditional Irish tunes, and for their tremendous skill as musicians. Blending beautiful instrumental sections (thanks mostly to the brilliant Uilleann piper, Liam O'Flynn) with passionate singing, this sadly now-defunct band appeals to both purists and lay listeners.
This eponymously-titled album opens with "Raggle Taggle Gypsy/Tabhair Dom Do Lamh," beginning with a vocal followed by an extended Uilleann pipe solo. "Junior Crehan's Favourite/Corney is ...
