INCESTICIDE is a compilation of material recorded for the John Peel Sessions, rare singles from Nirvana's tenure with Sub Pop, and previously-unreleased tracks.
All songs written by members of Nirvana except "Turnaround" (Mark Mothersbaugh/Gerald V. Casale), "Molly's Lips" and "Son Of A Gun" (Eugene Kelly/Francis McKee).
More than just a b-sides collection, INCESTICIDE culls together Nirvana's work before and around their now-legendary albums. Released between the groundbreaking NEVERMIND and the artsier IN UTERO, the rarities and outtakes which make up this album shed new light on Nirvana's oeuvre, filling in the gaps between official releases and providing fans with a wider variety of recordings from different sources.
Highlights include three covers, taken from John Peel sessions: a Devo tune ("Turnaround") and two songs by Scotland's The Vaselines, whose purposefully vapid pop magic is given the force of a juggernaut, with the minimal production that best showcases the Nirvana's aggressive grace. The famous quasi-live recording conditions of the BBC sessions provide another standout, the surging, desperate "Aneurysm," which remains one of Nirvana's finest recorded moments.
Includes liner notes by Kurt Cobain.

INCESTICIDE is a reminder of that..." Spin (3/93, p.22) - "...The stellar collection of old and new, borrowed and blue will thrill Nirvana fans that don't already own this stuff on bootleg..." Entertainment Weekly (12/18/92, p.58) - "...you can tell a great band by its junk. And by those standards, Nirvana remains a great band..." - Rating: B Q (1/93, p.100) - 3 Stars - Good - "...short, melody-driven songs which belt past with brisk, uncomplicated glee....a fascinating insight into what makes the band tick....a must for fans..." Alternative Press (3/93, p.54) - "...In that it takes the edge off an increasingly surreal collectors' market, INCESTICIDE blazes with an uncommon passion, and is a laudable effort to boot..." Musician (1/93, p.89) - "...With INCESTICIDE Cobain has called up the ghost of the old, pre-famous Nirvana and asked it to go out and face the world when he cannot..." NME (Magazine) (12/12/93, p.29) - "...Between the recording of BLEACH in 1988 and NEVERMIND in 1991, a helluva lot happened and here, thanks to the inclusion of the 1990 Peel covers session, a few mysteries about their metamorphosis in style are laid out for a proper look...."

Incesticide Music Review
Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All 26 Reviews Finally, album-quality B-sides Here's a song by song analysis in my personal opinion (*=personal favorites).
*Dive: A perfect first song.
Sliver: On the greatest hits album.
Stain: A heavy, cool song.
Been A Son: Also on the greatest hits album.
*Turnaround: A Devo cover. For some reason, this song is the most appealing to me from this album. I like it's tone and mood, and I like when Kurt does the "Who said don't look back?..." part.
Molly's Lips: A Vaselines cover.
Son Of A Gun: Another Vaselines cover.
(New Wave) Polly: An interesting rock version of the hit, Polly.
Beeswax: Another heavy, cool song.
*Downer: A huge favorite of mine. This song is the last song on their first album, Bleach, and was probably put on here for promotion. This song was one they played live a lot when they first started out as a band, and it was hard to hear Kurt's murmurs over the blasting guitars. You can make out the lyrics in the great studio version here, though, (and it's easier if you look up the lyrics first, though some are debated) and I find them very dark and cool, i.e. "...Hand out labotomies to save little families..."
*Mexican Seafood: I don't know why this is one of my favorites, it just is. I think it's because the rhythmic pattern of Kurt's stabbing vocals is distinct and cool.
*Hairspray Queen: If this was in a Nirvana song dictionary, it would say "see Tourette's" (my favorite Nirvana song ever, don't ask). Like that song, this song is mostly just jibberish, but unlike Tourette's this is a bit slower, and sounds sort of poppish. But mostly it sounds weird...and for some reason I like that.
Aero Zeppelin: A mostly slow song that's really cool.
Big Long Now: A nice song that sounds a lot like the previous track, except quieter.
*Aneurysm: This is one of Nirvana's best songs. It wreaks of distortion, but welcome distortion. As soon as you hear the catchy line "Come on over and do the twist," you are hooked. A fantasting finale to this B-sides collection. Submitted by DarkTemplar04J (Oxford, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Amazing This album captures the real Nirvana, so far removed from the radio friendly Nevermind. Those of you who are fans of grunge music, I suggest you buy this, it's a perfect collection of songs for your personal listening pleasure. GRUNGE ALL THE WAY!. Crazy Good! This is probably one of Nirvana's greatest albums. If you liked Nevermind & In Utero then you'll like this album for sure. Be sure to listen to Aneurysm, Polly, Dive, Hairspray Queen and Sliver. The first time i listened to it i thought it was terrible but i listen to it a couple more times and now i love it BUY THIS NOW! Submitted by Nick J. AWESOME!!!!! Seriously this is one of their best albums. From the heaviniess in "Dive" to the awesome song of "Molly's Lips" you can't ask for anything more! Molly's Lips is a faster cover that will make you bounce around and sing "Kiss, Kiss, Molly Lips" over and over again. Truly an awesome album with some songs from their earlier days like when Bleach came out and some stuff that sounds like stuff from in utero and nevermind.
