4 stars Still great after all these years
It may not have been heavy metal but it was one of the foreruners of modern rock. It's still a fresh sound even in the 21st century.

5 stars Remarkable
Clapton,Bruce, and Baker shine on this great album. Cream was well known for their ability to play as a unit and each song on this album displays each member's talents. Clapton's guitar roars on "Tales Of Brave Ulysses" and "SWLABR".

Led Zeppelin CD  (1969) Remastered

Disraeli Gears album
CD $12.45  4.2 stars Top 500 Audio Samples Definitive Album
Rising from the ashes of his old band the Yardbirds, session guitarist Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most powerful, influential, and enduring British bands to emerge in the '60s. Despite the presence of such classic thrash-o-ramas as "Good Times Bad Times" and "Communication Breakdown," what set Led Zeppelin apart was the depth and range of their music. Their sound was bathed in the blues, from rootsy covers of Willie Dixon's "You Shook Me" and "I Can't Quit You Baby," to the crunching rhythm changes of "Dazed And Confused." Few guitarists before or since possessed Page's sense of pacing and dynamics, as exemplified by the traditional ...

Disraeli Gears CD music
CD $11.25  4.7 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
Principally recorded at the Record Plant, New York, New York in April and May 1968. On ELECTRIC LADYLAND Jimi Hendrix stretched and experimented in the studio, going beyond the power-trio format on what would be his last studio album with the Experience. ELECTRIC LADYLAND was revolutionary in its scope and execution. Using New York City's Record Plant as a gateway to free expression, Hendrix traversed an abstract landscape containing compositions as weird and wonderful as "...And The Gods Made Love" and "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)." Simultaneously looking forwards and backwards, Hendrix mixed in a song reminiscent of his time on the chitlin' circuit (Earl King's "Come On [Part 1]"), a Bob Dylan favorite ("All Along The Watchtower"), and one of his snappiest singles ("Crosstown Traffic"). Although Hendrix produced ...

Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced? CD  (1967)

Disraeli Gears music CDs
CD $11.19  4.8 stars Top 500 Audio Samples Definitive Album
This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released in the U.K., featuring the same songs but in the original British track order). The Experience Hendrix label is controlled by Hendrix's family. The 1997 reissue also adds a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished photos, the original LP liner notes and song lyrics. Recorded in late 1966 and early 1967 at Olympic Studios, London, England. Jimi Hendrix's debut recording was an instant classic, and is as startling today as when it first hit the streets in 1967. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is probably the most rock-oriented of Hendrix's official studio releases, but its influences are incredibly diverse. "Third Stone From The Sun" recalls the supple octaves of jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery; the churning Afro-Cuban polyrhythms of "Manic Depression" evoke John Coltrane and Elvin Jones; ...

Disraeli Gears songs
CD $6.39  4.3 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
From the acappella intro on "I Feel Free" to the tumultuous rhythmic underpinnings of "N.S.U.," Cream's debut album FRESH CREAM was a pronouncement that drums and bass would no longer be limited to the role of background instruments, that rock guitarists would henceforth be judged by the standard of Eric Clapton's soaring, lyric signature, and that emotional/instrumental content is as important as the singer and song. ...

Disraeli Gears album
CD $14.89  4.7 stars Top 500 Audio Samples Definitive Album
Originally released as a 2-LP set, half live, half studio recordings. When Cream released WHEELS OF FIRE, they had established themselves as the premier blues-rock band due to the success of their first two albums and the extraordinary chemistry between the band's members. As a result of this synergy, Cream also enjoyed a fiery live reputation. This double album represents both sides of Cream's musical personality. The first record is a studio job, where the band mixes originals with covers of Howlin' Wolf ("Sitting on Top of the World") and Albert King ("Born Under a Bad Sign"). The songs written by the band all contain unique touches. "As You Said" finds Jack Bruce swapping his bass for a cello, "Pressed Rat and Warthog" sounds like an English folk tale courtesy of Ginger Baker's clipped recitation and the inclusion of baroque horns, and the classic "White Room" overflows with waves of Eric Clapton's wah-wah-drenched guitar. The second record was recorded over a four-day span at San Francisco's Winterland and Fillmore West. Extended versions of "Toad" and Willie Dixon's "Spoonful" demonstrate the band's intricate interplay, but most impressive is a blistering reading of Robert Johnson's "Crossroads," in which all three members seem to ...

Disraeli Gears CD music
CD $6.05  5 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
After less than 3 years in existence, and some 15 million albums sold, GOODBYE was Cream's farewell release. Baker, Bruce and Clapton indicated at the time that they were burned out on the concept, the touring, the improvisational "battles," and each other. The live cuts ("I'm So Glad," "Politician" and "Sitting On Top Of The World") are indicative of how the band's concert chemistry had evolved from earlier live recordings (such as those on WHEELS OF FIRE and LIVE CREAM, VOLUMES 1 & 2). But what's most striking about GOODBYE is the charm and craftsmanship of their last studio tracks, indicating that Cream was far from played out creatively, and illustrating how strong their songwriting skills really were. The Beatles' influence is readily apparent on each studio track, the ...
Ice Cube's Greatest Hits
Ice Cube's Greatest Hits CD  (2001) Edited

Disraeli Gears music CDs
CD $15.65  5 stars Audio Samples
Ice Cube's ferocious frown is familiar now from multiple big and small screen appearances, but as this collection reminds us, he's still first and foremost the thinking street thug's rapper, one of the original gangstas. GREATEST HITS isn't sequenced chronologically, jumping frantically from 1998's "Pushing Weight" to 1994's "Check Yo Self" with its "Message" backing track, to 1990's furious Public Enemy-influenced "Jackin' For Beats" (Ice Cube's departure from P.E.'s rivals N.W.A. presaged his hooking up with the Bomb Squad, Public Enemy's production team). But though the patchwork song list makes a clear overview of Cube's career difficult, it also makes for some thrilling twists and turns, for instance between the rowdy, early-'90s "The Nigga Ya Love to Hate" to the equally tumultuous ...

Grates Gravity Won't Get You High CD  (2006)

Disraeli Gears album
CD $9.19  Audio Samples
Australians the Grates strike a pleasing balance between NUGGETS-era garage rock, lo-fi punk, and Elephant 6-style quirk-pop. Their full-length debut, GRAVITY WON'T GET YOU HIGH, delivers on each count: the songwriting is whimsical but not frivolous, and the band rocks but isn't weighted with poseur attitude. At times the Grates seem to be playing a quaintly crafted version of vintage garage punk, but their sunny, child-like exuberance wins out in the end, making this catchy, solid first effort feel more like punk rock played at a 10-year-old's birthday ...
