Recording information: Wizard Mountain Studio, Santa Barbara, CA. Unknown Contributor Role: Dominic Camardella. Arranger: William Aura. Higher Octave purported in its early days to be a new age outfit, and if this disc represented the future of new age, it was a positive sign. Actually, Higher Octave used discs like this to expand their scope far beyond the new age genesis throughout the '90s. Aura gets by with a little help from flutist Richard Tibbits on the tropical "You Feel So Good," but mainly controls the show, texturing upbeat melodic synth with engaging bass grooves and some acoustic guitar. The disc keeps a pleasant tone throughout, but Aura infuses just enough percussiveness to keep things hopping. ~ Jonathan Widran World Keeps Turning Music William Aura World Keeps Turning Songs World Keeps Turning Review

| | Pure Moods CD (1997)
World Keeps Turning
$11.69 Producers include: R. Gallo Salsotto, DJ Dado, Claus Zundel. Originally advertised on television and then released to stores, Pure Moods could be subtitled "New Age's Greatest Hits." Certainly, it has everything that the mainstream pop audience could construe as new age -- atmospheric synthesizers, chants and haunting sonic textures. More importantly, it has all of the songs, from Enigma ("Return to Innocence," "Sadeness Part I"), Deep Forest ("Sweet Lullaby") and Enya ("Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)") to Jean Michel Jarre ("Oxygene Part IV"), Angelo Badalamenti ("Theme from Twin Peaks"), Mark Isham ("My Wife with Champagne Shoulders"), DJ Dado ("X-Files Theme") and Mike Oldfield ("Tubular Bells, Pt. 1"). In short, it's new age music for the pop music fan or the baby boomer, and it's hard to imagine that another compilation could cover the same ground quite as well. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine From the exotic world-music flavor of ...

World Keeps Turning
$10.19 Mannheim Steamroller: Chip Davis (recorder, drums); Denny Schneider (trumpet); Bill Buntain (trombone); Jackson Berkey (keyboards); Eric Hansen (bass). Engineers: Don Sears, Ron Ubel, Jeff Schiller. Recorded at Sound Recorders Studios, Omaha, Nebraska & Kansas City, Missouri. All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology. A harbinger of the new age movement, Mannheim Steamroller's debut is a unique mix of light classical piano music, progressive rock, and medieval songs. Composer Chip Davis breaks the album into 12 semi-classical structures (sonatas, interludes, even a disguised passacaglia) that match up to the seasons, rendering Fresh Aire a concept album about nature and life. Most of the music is played by Jackson Berkey, dubbing piano, harpsichord, and synthesizers atop one another with a minimal rhythm section from Davis and Eric Hansen. At its spaciest, Fresh Aire sounds like Keith Emerson or Camel; when the band's in a medieval mood, Gentle Giant (notably "Talybont") comes to mind. Audiophiles took a real shine to Mannheim Steamroller, both for the superior album packaging and the clean sound (if memory serves, American Gramaphone used to charge on the high side for their ...
