Incredible! I adore opera and I've always been fascinated with voices of opera singers, so it's not strange that I enjoyed the album. Every song displays not only the exellence of Andrea's voice but the unbelievable emotion with which he sings his songs. The songs have so beautiful lyrics (it's said that Italian is the most suitable language for love songs), and combined with Andrea's magnificent voice make a perfect choice for listening. $13.05 Andrea Bocelli was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli is one of those rare artists who is equally comfortable on both sides of the pop/classical fence. Discovered by Italian pop sensation Zucchero, Bocelli, whose blindness is no hindrance to his musical insight, has made an international splash in both the pop and opera worlds. He's worked with Luciano Pavarotti and Bryan Adams with equal ease, and his all-encompassing musical prowess can be easily heard on ROMANZA. The album weaves his strong, expressive, classically-trained voice through some elegant contemporary material. Many songs have a political bent that brings to mind the socially-conscious lyricism of artists like Milton Nascimento. Roll over, Luciano, and tell Michael Bolton the news.

Romanza
$11.45 in London, England, and Alexander Digital Suite in Miami, Florida.
Sarah Brightman is an example of the kind of artist that Duke Ellington would have described as "beyond category." Coming from a theatrical musical background, she combines the traditions of Broadway show-tunes (Andrew Lloyd-Webber's ex, she starred in his 'Phantom of the Opera,' among other things), opera, art song and pop to produce a fresh, unusual amalgam that is showcased to fine effect on TIME TO SAY GOODBYE. Brightman reaches into the Latin tradition here (she sings in Spanish on such tunes as 'Tu Quieres Volver,' offering a glimpse of yet another area of her talent. One of the brightest spots of the album is her duet with pop-classical crossover superstar Andrea Bocelli on the title song.
Recorded at EMI Abbey Road Studio No. 1, Angel Studio No. 1 and Nemo Studios
Personnel: Sarah Brightman, Andrea Bocelli, Jose Cura (vocals); Paul Bateman (conductor); London Symphony Orchestra.
| | Aria - The Opera Album / Andrea Bocelli CD (1998)
Romanza
$10.69 Andrea Bocelli is one of a handful of artists able to perform both popular and classical music with great success and distinction. ARIA-THE OPERA ALBUM features his thoughtful and heartfelt renditions of some of the most popular Romantic tenor arias. It is easy to hear strains of other singers in his voice, such as a young Del Monaco or perhaps Corelli, with whom he studied, paying for his lessons singing in piano bars and night clubs.
Worth noting are "Questa o quella" from Verdi's 'Rigoletto,' where Bocelli easily adopts the suave and lascivious charm of The Duke of Mantua, and "Porquoi me réveiller" from Massenet's 'Werther,' which highlights his command of the French language. With his perfect diction and dramatic style, Andrea Bocelli gives the experienced listener a new alternative to existing recordings and the opera novice an excellent introduction to the tenor repertoire.

| | Andrea Bocelli Viaggio Italiano CD (1997)
Romanza
$11.79 Selection includes Messagio Bocelle - A spoken message from Andrea Bocelli.
Andrea Bocelli's is a strikingly individual voice, a plangent tenor given to shaded crooning yet capable of exhilarating, effortless lifts to high C. The individual behind the voice is equally remarkable: blind from childhood, Tuscan Bocelli became a lawyer whose passion for music led him to study with his idol Franco Corelli. He records both classical and pop music, but unlike most pop singers who try the classics, he has the chops; unlike most opera stars who cross over into pop he has the ability to create the illusion of simple, spontaneous expression.
VIAGGIO ITALIANO comprises songs that would have formed the heart of an Italian-American's 78-rpm record collection in the 1920s. There are beloved opera arias such as "La Donna e Mobile" from Verdi's 'Rigoletto,' spiritual classics like Schubert's "Ave Maria," and sentimental Neapolitan songs such as "O Sole Mio," which were among the first international pop hits in the early days of recording. By going here, Bocelli invites comparisons with legends of the past--Caruso, Gigli, Lanza--all mentioned in his liner note, but he knows what he's doing and he does it with confidence and affection.
Australia exclusive edition of the Italian vocalist's 1995 album, pressed onto a gold CD. 16 tracks. Slipcase.
| | Andrea Bocelli Sogno CD (1999)
Romanza
$10.69 "The Prayer" was nominated 2000 Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. "Sogno" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
There seems to be no end to the market for Latin tenors who inhabit the peculiar world most often termed "crossover." The well-known "Three Tenors" travel the boundaries between classical music, songs from their homelands and European pop songs frequently and with ease. The success of these artists is also being enjoyed by Bocelli, who was launched as a superstar in the United States in late 1997 by pledge-time showings of his television special on PBS. His then-current album ROMANZA shot up the charts, followed in short order by VIAGGIO ITALIANO (a mix of opera and traditional Italian songs in the manner of Mario Lanza or Enrico Caruso) and ARIA-THE OPERA ALBUM.
Now with SOGNO (Italian for "dream," pronounced "soh-nyo") Bocelli returns to the all-pop sound of ROMANZA. The program is entirely in Italian, with translations provided, and fans of the tenor need not fear disappointment. Duets with Celine Dion, Dulce Pontes, and Eros Ramazzotti are highlights, and Bocelli is in top form throughout. For those who've not yet made this singer's acquaintance, SOGNO makes an excellent introduction. Be warned, however, that it may induce cravings for his previous albums!

| | Camper Van Beethoven II & III CD (1986) Bonus Tracks
Romanza
$11.09 Contains a Camper Van Beethoven/Monks Of Doom/Cracker Discography.
California underground ragamuffins Camper Van Beethoven represented one of the last gasps of indie rock before it was subsumed by the shadow of corporate interest and re-dubbed "alternative" music. With their combination of punk-rock edge, stoner/surfer ethos, and Eastern European folk influence (courtesy of Jonathan Segal's searing violin), CVB was an archetypal "alternative" rock band.
The group's freewheeling, style-splice aesthetic is on the group's second effort, confusingly titled II & III, with the parodic, sing-song "(Don't You Go To) Goleta," straight country ("Sad Lover's Waltz"), experimental noise rock ("Cattle [Reversed]"), and the minor-key indie punch of "We're A Bad Trip." With guitarist/singer David Lowery's evolving songwriting and Camper's trademark offbeat humor (one of their songs is called "ZZ Top Goes To Egypt"), II & III keeps listeners guessing (and listening).
1986 Reissue W/6 Bonus Tracks.
