Usually, it's not a good sign if a band is generally known for augmenting artists instead of their own records, but Tower of Power was really a very good horn section, and they did make records that held their own. Of course, "What Is Hip?" was the biggest single they ever had, but they also had several other smaller hits that captured their sleek, stylized soul-funk quite well, such as "Soul Vaccination." Pretty much all of those songs are captured on Rhino's 2001 anthology The Very Best of ...

| | Norah Jones Come Away With Me CDs (2002)
J'Ai Deux Amours album
$10.05 COME AWAY WITH ME won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).
"Don't Know Why" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical).
A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. One thing that separates her from the pack is Ms. Jones' own piano stylings--not flashy, but deftly doubling or echoing her voice--that discreetly act as the glue holding together these airy, delicate, and beautiful arrangements.
But the centerpiece is certainly the 22-year-old's confident-beyond-her-years vocal delivery in addition to a precise diction and velvety tone. ...
| | Paco De Lucia Friday Night In San Francisco CD (1980) Remastered
J'Ai Deux Amours CD music
$8.29 Master Sound releases are 24-karat gold plated CDs remastered from first-generation masters. This process utilizes 20-bit technology and Sony's "Super Bit Mapping" system.
This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
Loose and spontaneous, this (mainly) live album is a meeting of three of the greatest guitarists in the world for an acoustic summit the likes of which the guitar-playing community rarely sees. Broken up into three duo and two trio performances, Friday Night in San Francisco catches all three players at the peaks of their quite formidable powers. The first track features Al di Meola and Paco de Lucía teaming up for a medley of di Meola's "Mediterranean Sundance" (first recorded by the duo on di Meola's classic 1976 album Elegant Gypsy) and de Lucía's own "Rio Ancho." It is a delightful performance, full of the fire and inhuman chops that one expects from two players of this caliber. However, the two guitarists obviously have big ears, and they complement each other's solos with percussive, driving rhythm parts. There is a laid-back, humorous element to Friday Night in San Francisco as well, best witnessed in di Meola and ...

| | Texas Tornados Live From Austin TX CD (2005) Remastered; Digipak
J'Ai Deux Amours CD music
$12.59 It's hard to imagine a band that was more perfectly suited for Austin, TX, than the Texas Tornados. Never mind the fact that two of the city's favorite sons, Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers, were members (and that the other key members, Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez, were equally beloved throughout the Lone Star State) -- in a city with as voracious and omnivorous an appetite for music as Austin, a band that could play rock, blues, country, norteño, swing, boogie, and on occasion all of them at once could only be regarded as a blessing, and when the Texas Tornados appeared on the great PBS music series ...

| | Best Of Bob Dylan CD (2005)
J'Ai Deux Amours songs
$9.49 Arriving at the end of 2005, just in time to cash in on the Bob Dylan hype created by Martin Scorsese's documentary NO DIRECTION HOME, Columbia/Legacy's THE BEST OF BOB DYLAN is a concise, career-spanning greatest-hits collection. Of course, any 16-track retrospective claiming to do justice to Dylan's mammoth, culture-defining discography is kidding itself, but BEST OF doesn't make that claim. Instead, it presents an effective whirlwind tour through a handful of Dylan's iconic compositions.
Naturally, "Blowin' in the Wind," "Mr. Tambourine Man," "All Along the Watchtower," and "Like A Rolling Stone" are here, as well as key selections from his post-60s career, which include the scorching protest song "Hurricane," the Daniel Lanois-produced "Not Dark Yet," and the full-tilt blues boogie "Summer Days" from his 2001 release LOVE AND THEFT. Even the most casual Dylan listener is bound to have some of these tunes on one album ...
