| | George Benson Songs And Stories CD (2009)
J'Ai Deux Amours
$15.65 George Benson's sound is so recognizable that, in its way, it's quite comforting to hear his voice or his guitar come across on the radio or in a club. His recordings have been polished and extravagant in many cases, but there are those signature elements-his relaxed delivery and silky touch on the strings and his voice, as evocative as a cool breeze floating across a hot summer night. SONGS AND STORIES doesn't deviate from his formula a great deal, but it doesn't have to. He's chosen ten ubiquitous pop tunes from a variety of songwriters (and one by a relatively new kid on the block), and with the help of producers John Burk and Marcus Miller, he puts them across in fine style.
Audio Mixer: Don Murray.
Liner Note Author: George Benson.

| | Bill Evans Portrait In Jazz CD (1959) Remastered
J'Ai Deux Amours
$9.65 An indisputable jazz classic, Bill Evans's PORTRAIT IN JAZZ was originally released in 1959, issued on CD in the early `90s, then remastered and re-released in 2008. The crisp remastering is a joy, and brings the glorious music made by the legendary pianist and his trio into sharp, gorgeous relief. Evans's treatments of standards and classics such as "Come Rain or Come Shine," "Witchcraft," and "Someday My Prince Will Come" are startling and moving, but it's the originals--"Peri's Scope" and the seminal "Blue in Green"--that stand out.

| | Tower Of Power Bump City CD (1972)
J'Ai Deux Amours
$7.99 Funk masters Tower Of Power's tight, funky sound is in high gear on BUMP CITY, one of the group's strongest efforts. Containing several TOP hits, including concert favorite "You Got To Funkifize" and the classic "Down To The Nightclub," this is one of the best examples of Oakland's favorite sons in their stride. Other cuts, like the down-and-dirty "You Strike My Main Nerve" and the bluesy shuffle "Flash In The Pan," couple the funky power of the original Prestia-Garibaldi rhythm team with those signature TOP horns.
Singer Rick Stevens also shines on such ballads as "What Happened To The World That Day" and the moving hit "You're Still A Young Man," yet another classic from the group's early days. In all, BUMP CITY is guaranteed to funk you into bad health and make you crave that Oakland stroke more than ever.
Recorded at TMI Sound Studios, Memphis, Tennessee.
Tower Of Power: Willie James Fulton (vocals, guitar); Skip Mesquite (vocals, tenor saxophone, flute); Emilio Castillo (vocals, tenor saxophone); Stephen Kupka (vocals, baritone saxophone); Greg Adams (vocals, trumpet, flugelhorn, french horn, piano); Mic Gillette (vocals, trumpet, trombone, french horn); Brent Byars (vocals, conga drums); Rick ...
