Zelenka: Trio Sonatas / Holliger, Bourgue, Zehetmair, Et Al
$10.79 Elton John spent much of the '80s in a whirlwind of personal upheaval and his musical unevenness included working with lyricists besides Bernie Taupin (an unthinkable notion during their run at the top of the charts during the '70s). EJ went for a fresh start by auctioning off all the costumes and props that he'd become renowned for during his over-the-top live shows. Right before doing this, the flamboyant entertainer revisited the past one more time by recreating his greatest hits live using orchestral accompaniment.
The resulting LIVE IN AUSTRALIA found the John donning a powdered wig and 17th century garb to lead this ensemble, along with members of his regular touring band. Older material such as "Burn Down The Mission," "Madman Across The Water" and "Take Me To The Pilot" is particularly breathtaking as presented in all its symphonic splendor while more obscure numbers such as "Have Mercy On The Criminal" and "The Greatest Discovery" remain odd yet interesting choices. The oddest result of this album's release was that "Candle In The Wind" unexpectedly ...

Zelenka: Trio Sonatas / Holliger, Bourgue, Zehetmair, Et Al
$20.49 Chicago commemorates 35 years of playing together with the career-spanning 2-CD anthology ONLY THE BEGINNING. This Windy City septet started out as one of the few '60s groups aside from Blood, Sweat & Tears and The Electric Flag to fuse a full horn section with a rock band. Chicago's early hits included more aggressive fare like "25 Or 6 To 4," "Beginnings," and a scorching cover of The Spencer Davis Group's "I'm A Man," but they became known as a ballads band as the '70s progressed. AM hits like "Saturday In The Park," "Just You 'N' Me," and "Baby, What A Big Surprise" helped solidify this reputation.
Despite stumbling in the late '70s and getting dropped by Columbia Records, Chicago neatly landed on its feet at Warner Brothers. Their chart assault in the '80s continued with ballads like "Hard To Say I'm Sorry/Look Away," "Hard Habit To Break," and the quintessential prom theme/wedding song "You're The Inspiration." Hits sans Peter Cetera (who left in 1985), include "Chasin' The Wind." Wrapping up this 40-song set is "Sing, Sing, Sing," a new collaboration with ...
| | Foghat Family Joules CD (2003)
Zelenka: Trio Sonatas / Holliger, Bourgue, Zehetmair, Et Al
$16.45 'FAMILY JOULES' is a collection of thirteen new, incredible songs from one of the hardest-working, and longest running rock bands in music history. Since 1971 FOGHAT has been giving the fans what they've wanted, great Rock 'n Roll music, and this CD is no exception. It is a real collaboration with all four members of the band bringing song ideas to the project. The boys say they had a great time making this record and those good vibes come across on every track. It was truly an experience watching this 'work' unfold as they each brought ideas and/or nearly completed songs to the table each day and then worked their magic and 'PUT THE HAT ON IT' to give each track it's finishing touch. For the production of this project Bryan Bassett (Foghat's multi-talented lead-guitarist) put together a mobile digital recording studio (The Blue Brain Mobile Unit) and set up in Studio C at Pyramax Studios in Lake Helen, Florida. The sessions were then transferred to ProTools and mixed by Bryan in The Blue Brain Immobile Unit (Bryan's home studio) with help from Tony Stevens and Foghat's 'live sound guy' Carl Davino. Bob Katz at Digital Domain did the mastering. "Family Joules" was produced by "Foghat" and is released on their own BESH records. The reviews from fans and DJ's thus far have been fantastic. The rhythm section comprised of original members Roger Earl and Tony Stevens is as solid & dynamic as ever in laying down that Foghat groove. Bryan Bassett is just incredible on lead and slide guitar with some of the most exciting guitar around today...and Charlie Huhn ignites the band with his amazing vocals, incredible range, and some truly ...
| | George Harrison Living In The Material World CD (2006) With DVD; Limited Edition; Remastered
Zelenka: Trio Sonatas / Holliger, Bourgue, Zehetmair, Et Al
$22.89 On his first studio album since the artistic and commercial triumph of his 1970 solo debut, Harrison opted to produce himself rather than continue his association with producer Phil Spector. Boasting an intimate, organic sound that is far-removed from Spector's wall-of-sound production of ALL THINGS MUST PASS, LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD shows a more reflective, acoustic-oriented side of the ex-Beatle. The album opens on a high note with Harrison's number one hit "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)," a gorgeous, soaring pop song that is a perfect showcase of Harrison's earnest vocals and distinctive slide guitar playing. Though none of the other songs on the album are quite as spectacular as "Give Me Love," there are many excellent tracks, including the Beatlesque "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long" and "Sue Me, Sue You Blues," a biting commentary on the Beatles' business problems circa 1973, which features Ringo Starr on drums and some exceptionally potent slide guitar from Harrison.
This CD/DVD set includes his #1 1973 album remastered with 2 rare bonus tracks plus a 20-minute DVD with previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage and photos set to both ...
