Spoon: Britt Daniel (vocals, guitar); Josh Zarbo (bass); Jim Eno (drums). Audio Mixers: Jim Eno; Britt Daniel. Recording information: 06/2000-07/2000. Recorded after their landmark Girls Can Tell LP but released months before it, Spoon's Loveways EP served as a reintroduction to their core audience as a wiser, more confident combo. Britt Daniel and Jim Eno's unmistakable post-punk energy still anchors the band, but their infatuations with Wire and the Pixies have ceded a bit to allow blues, pop, and even doo wop influences in. While not their most cohesive set, the diverse range of the five songs is the EPs strength -- Loveways was the first indication that Spoon was chasing their own sound into exciting and unexpected territories, and in the process coming into their own as a great rock band. ~ Bryan Carroll Spoon Love Ways Songs | 1. | Change My Life |

Time may not exactly heal all wounds, but it can lend the perspective and strength to channel pain into something positive. Such is the case with Spoon; their perennial indie rock underdog status and disastrous stint on Elektra have focused and tempered the trio's brash energy instead of crushing it. Their third full-length, Girls Can Tell, reflects the group's lean, hungry stance in its spare, spiky, immaculately crafted songs. "Take the Fifth" and "Take a Walk" take Spoon's smart, bouncy, slightly tough signature sound to ...

Audio Mixers: Mark Kiczula; James Murray; Jay Baumgardner. Recording information: 4th Street Recording, Santa Monica, CA; The Village Recorder, LA, CA. Photographer: Lego. The debut album from this California-based quartet is likeable, turn-of-the-century modern rock played with little style, but youthful enthusiasm. Nothing here's gonna change the world, but the fact that these guys don't seem inclined toward filling any agenda or catering to a specific audience is promising. It's no-frills rock & roll with occasional power melodies taking charge. ~ Michael Gallucci With opening gigs for the newly famous (Alien Ant Farm, Incubus) and the firmly established (Live), Hoobastank have had the envious opportunity to generate buzz and ...
