| | Mark Wills Wish You Were Here CD Mark Wills Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This Georgia country boy's energetic debut made a mark on the Country music scene, establishing Wills as an up-and-comer with enthusiasm to spare. The follow up WISH YOU WERE HERE is just as full of fire as its predecessor, but there's a difference. Wills has done some growing since his first album, and it's reflected in the songs here. Though there's not a lax moment, there's a good deal of introspection and thoughtful examination of the world in these tunes. In short, Wills gives New Country fans a chance to think while they two-step.

Wish You Were Here album
$13.99 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," ...

| | Carrie Underwood Play On CD (2009)
Wish You Were Here music CDs
$12.95 Daisy in her hair aside, Carrie Underwood looks flat-out glamorous on the cover of PLAY ON, which is a pretty fair indication of what awaits listeners on her third album. Carrie is still nominally a country artist and sometimes will sing supported by fiddles and steel guitar, but this is crossover pop pure and simple, whether it's the thundering rhythms on the Shania-styled strut "Cowboy Casanova" or the succession of maudlin melodies on the preponderance of power ballads. Carrie takes a much stronger presence as a writer here, co-authoring seven of the 13 songs, and she's attracted to hookless showstoppers designed to showcase her powerful voice. When she sticks to tunes written solely by the professionals, PLAY ON does have some slick pleasures, particularly on the breezy "Quitter" and "This Time," songs built on solid melodies and delivered without flash, relying on craft and Carrie's considerable small-town charm.

Wish You Were Here album
$5.75 The Christmas Album finds the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band turning in a typically tasteful album and a surprisingly strong country holiday record. Along with a couple recent holiday tunes and originals, the Dirt Band puts their distinctive spin on traditional carols like "Silver Bells," "Silent Night," and "Little Drummer Boy." The end result is quite charming and should appeal to much of the Dirt Band's hardcore following. ~ Thom Owens

Wish You Were Here CD music
$7.29 "Funny How Time Slips Away" won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Collaboration, and "I Fall To Pieces" won the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration. "Patches" was nominated for Best Country Vocal Collaboration, and RHYTHM COUNTRY AND BLUES was nominated for Best Engineered Album.
RHYTHM COUNTRY & BLUES is a collection of duets between well-known country, R&B and blues performers. This release includes a 25-page booklet with session photographs and complete recording personnel listings.
Finally, with the release of RHYTHM COUNTRY AND BLUES, someone has had the courage, the vision and the commercial horse sense to acknowledge what several generations of musicians have recognized without reservation: That for all of their seeming differences in posture and attitude, the enduring soul of R&B and country music remains one and the same.
For those who came to music through the crucible of regional churches this might seem second nature. But from Louis Armstrong's duets with Jimmie Rodgers to the parallel paths of swing bands led by Count Basie and Bob Wills; from the modern country sounds of Ray Charles to the righteous funk groove of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm section, the rich Southern ...
