| | Mark Wills Wish You Were Here CD Mark Wills Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This Georgia country boy's energetic debut made a mark on the Country music scene, establishing Wills as an up-and-comer with enthusiasm to spare. The follow up WISH YOU WERE HERE is just as full of fire as its predecessor, but there's a difference. Wills has done some growing since his first album, and it's reflected in the songs here. Though there's not a lax moment, there's a good deal of introspection and thoughtful examination of the world in these tunes. In short, Wills gives New Country fans a chance to think while they two-step.

Wish You Were Here
$14.54 Based on title alone, it would seem that SOUTHERN VOICE picks up on the harder country edges of LET IT GO, but that's not the case: this is Tim McGraw's rockiest album yet, opening with a slow, spacy crawl called "Still" that would not be out of place on a record by a U2 knockoff and taking the occasional detour to Nickelback territory on the Chad Kroeger co-written "It's a Business Doing Pleasure with You." That tune bristles with Kroeger's barely veiled, unwitting hostility, ...
| | Terri Clark The Long Way Home CD (2009)
Wish You Were Here
$11.18 Four years after her final Mercury Nashville album, LIFE GOES ON, a wiser, bloodied, but unbowed Terri Clark emerges on the THE LONG WAY HOME. This self-produced, self-released album is on her own Bare Tracks imprint, distributed by Capitol. Clark wrote or co-wrote every track on THE LONG WAY HOME, a rockin' contemporary country record that sets its own standard ...
| | Taylor Swift Fearless CDs (2009) With DVD; Bonus Tracks; Special Edition
Wish You Were Here
$16.90 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing--and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit--is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is softly assured, never pushing its hooks too hard. Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country--there aren't fiddles here, there are violins--yet the production ...

| | Robert Earl Keen The Rose Hotel CD (2009)
Wish You Were Here
$12.09 THE ROSE HOTEL is Texas songwriter Robert Earle Keen's first studio album since 2005's WHAT I REALLY MEAN. Keen enlisted fellow Texan Lloyd Maines to produce him this time out and that was a solid decision. The material ranges from the title track which is one of his spun out story tunes that looks at a pair of lovers who can never quite connect as they think their meant to. Fueled by a shuffling rhythm, mandolins, Bukka Allen's accordion, and some electric guitars for support, the choruses are catchy, making for another notch in his trademark tunes belt. The cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Flying Shoes" is rocked up a bit, with a bass line that sounds like it would be more at home on a Brian Setzer Orchestra record than ...
