Still Not Black Enough is the second and last record employing well-traveled hired gun Bob Kulick while guitarist Chris Holmes was out of the fold. Between him and percussionist Frankie Banali, it's not surprising that this and the preceding Crimson Idol seem more like Blackie Lawless solo discs, and his vision for the band took W.A.S.P. away from their shock rock foundation to a more thoughtful and nearly conceptual plateau. Unfortunately, the results are mixed. Tender balladry, such as the piano-led "Keep Holding On" and "I Can't," the latter with Lawless assuming a weak falsetto, confused and alienated fans. In spite of inspired musicianship and a few fist-pumping moments ("Goodbye America" and "Black Forever"), Still Not Black Enough implodes upon its own ambition, though the band's subsequent calculated return to blood-and-guts imagery helps one appreciate the effort if nothing else. ~ Brian O'Neill

classic This is definatley a different album for wasp. Has a lot more slower songs.
I think it is a great album, and a classic. Fans that like the harder wasp may not care for this one. Submitted by bmmckorn (houston tx) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Among their best I have a copy of every note W.A.S.P. ever released. With the exception of the debut CD, this might be their best album. "Rock And Roll To Death" is a hrd-hitting anthem, while the unbridled anguish on "I Can't" leaves the listener bristling. The only flaw is when Blackie gets the lyrics wrong on "Whole Lotta Rosie". He must have missed the original joke about Rosie's proportions of 42-39-56, as he gives them as 14-39-56. A little bit of difference there. Otherwise, well worth adding to your collection. Powerful I feel the music is powerful in this one. Wasp needs to come to upstate NY. Submitted by a reviewer (Albany, NY) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Good Disc This disc is one of W.A.S.P.'s lesser know albums but it still rocks. Blackie and the band do it as only they can. Submitted by a reviewer (Bradford, P.A. U.S.A.) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
just good music not too many people have ever heard of "STILL NOT BLACK ENOUGH" THE US VERSION HAS MORE SONGS (COVERS)BUT, IT IS HARDER TO GET. THE ENGLISH VERION HAS (BREATHE) A MELLOW BALLAD THAT IS A GOOD SONG. THIS ALBUM IS NOT LIKE MOST W.A.S.P. ALBUMS. IT IS A MORE MAINSTREAM ALBUM FOR W.A.S.P. I AM SURPRISED IT ISN'T VERY POPULAR.
ONE COVER THAT IS ON ALL VERSIONS IS JEFFERSON AIRPLANE'S "SOMEBODY TO LOVE" A MUST HEAR. IF YOU LIKE W.A.S.P. YOU'LL LOVE "BLACK FOREVER" AND "GOODBYE AMERICA". IN ALL THERE IS ONLY ONE SONG I DON'T LIKE AND THATS "ROCK'N'ROLL TO DEATH" AND THAT IS THE ONLY SONG FROM THIS ALBUM THAT IS ON "DOUBLE LIVE ASSASSINS"? I RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM HIGHLY. IF YOU LIKE "LOVE MACHINE", YOU WILL THIS ALBUM. Submitted by rbronk (kingsford, mi) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo This review is for a different format.
