| | Michael Jackson Off The Wall CD (1979) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
Negro Necro Nekros
$5.49 OFF THE WALL remaster contains previously unreleased demos and commentary by producer Quincy Jones and songwriter Rod Temperton.
Recorded in Los Angeles, California between 1978 & 1979. Originally released on Epic (35745).
Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
As the lead singer of the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson had already been labeled a legend at a young age; but OFF THE WALL introduced the world to the adult Michael Jackson, and proved that he was still very much worthy of that label. It was the real beginning for Michael as a solo artist, and opened the doors for his next album THRILLER, which would become the greatest selling album of all time and help foist upon a Jackson a new title: King Of Pop.
Under the supervision of Quincy Jones, OFF THE WALL illustrated some of Jackson's most soulful material. The title-track is among the album's smoothest, and introduces his silky feel for the dance-floor. The lively "Working Day And Night" was a teaser for the singles "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You," both of which reached #1 on the pop charts. Slowing down the pace, the album also hosted some romantic tunes which, through the years, have become classics in their own right. With "Girlfriend" and "She's Out Of My Life," Michael proved that he never lost his golden touch when it came to love songs.

| | Paul Butterfield Blues Band CD (1965)
Negro Necro Nekros
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the thing still packs a wallop. Butterfield's harmonica and vocals are utterly idiomatic, without a hint of minstrelsy. Michael Bloomfield's lead guitar is stinging and eloquent, and the rhythm section, ...

| | What Time Is It? CD (1982)
Negro Necro Nekros
$6.59 This album oozes attitude. From its opening "Wild And Loose," Morris never quits with his rantings ("Ain't nobody cool but me"). But his real talent, aside from his alleged sexual prowess, is his ability to get the most out of his band. What makes these grooves timeless are the immensely musical and tight players Mr. Day gathered. "777-9311," for instance, features some super cymbal work from Jellybean Johnson, and a frenzied guitar solo from Jesse Johnson. This is funk, early eighties style, with a certain Prince-ly flavor and plenty of humor. "Somebody get me a mirror!"
"What time is it?" shouts Morris Day to kick ...
| | Take Me To The River: A Southern Soul Story 1961-1977 CDs (2008)
Negro Necro Nekros
$46.15 This three-disc set documenting the 1960s/'70s glory days of Southern soul is as impressive an anthology as one could want, balancing expertly between classic tunes by big-name artists and lost gems by cult favorites. Covering the soul scene as it developed in Muscle Shoals, Memphis, and elsewhere, TAKE ME TO THE RIVER moves from such iconic cuts as the Al Green title track and Aretha Franklin's "Do Right Woman Do Right Man" to milestones of a less ubiquitous nature (King Floyd's "Groove Me," Paul Kelly's "Stealing in the Name of the Lord") and obscure collectors-manna like The Masqueraders' "Let's Face Facts," carefully presenting as all-encompassing a portrait of this rich scene as even a three-disc limit will allow.
2008 three CD set, a selection of songs that tell the story of the golden era of Southern Soul 1961-77 with full notes and lavish illustrations in a 72 page full-colour book, in a deluxe slipcase containing a jewel case- sized hard cover book. Take Me To the River chronicles the story of Southern Soul, from its advent in 1961 to its apex in the early 1970s. Its track listing was carefully chosen to reflect and demonstrate every facet of the genre, and to appeal to both long time collectors and those ...

Negro Necro Nekros
$9.19 Capturing the heat and passion that has always been synonymous with Silk, John John, Big G, Jimmy, Timzo and Lil' G offer TONIGHT. The title track features their trademark brand of soul and funk with beautiful melody, packing power from the start. "Let's Make Love" finds the members of the group switching off lead vocals. TONIGHT is packed with 13 new tracks that never sound alike, though Silk's unique soul style is stamped on every song. Producer Darryl "Delite" Allamby handles production on most of the songs. Among the tracks that hit right where they're supposed to are "Meeting In My Bedroom," a slow, steady ballad that rises in temperature, and "Love You Down."
Producers include: Gary "Little G" Jenkins, Darrell "Delite" ...
