The title of this debut says a lot, but not all, about the Italian dancy pop trio Eiffel 65. These boys have obviously listened to a lot of Yaz, early Depeche, and New Order. Lead singer Jeffrey Jey's voice, when it's not being run through a vocoder Roger Troutman-style, owes a lot to Simon LeBon. Moreover, the music is given the ultra-produced, pulsating beats-and-bleats treatment of all those faceless European dance outfits of the '90s. There's even a touch of that post-romantic soul a la Spandau Ballet or the Blow Monkeys. Eiffel 65 took over the Eurodance scene with the infectious single "Blue (Da Ba Dee)," an eminently likable tune around which this album is crafted.
Eiffel 65 proves that it is capable of at least one more wicked hook with the sugary "Too Much of Heaven." The album's true find is the orchestral "Living in a Bubble," which balances the sing-song rap styles of oh, say 1992, with a captivating musical loop reminiscent of P.M. Dawn meets the Soup Dragons. EUROPOP is more than just that, an appealing debut by a group that joins artists such as Les Ryhthmes Digitales and Alex Gopher in mining the '80s for dance nuggets.
"Blue (Da Ba Dee)" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
Eiffel 65: Gianfranco Randone (vocals); Maurizio Lobina (keyboards); Gabry Ponte (DJ).
Rolling Stone (3/2/00, p.92) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...Far more New Wave-influenced than their diva-helmed Eurodance peers [they] flaunt contemporary electronica gurgles while bringing back 80s-style melodic melodrama....EUROPOP is the sound of the rest of the world." Europop
$8.99 MILLENNIUM was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year and for Best Pop Vocal Album. "I Want It That Way" was nominated for Record Of The Year and for Song Of The Year.
"Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
The Backstreet Boys self-titled 1997 debut album endeared the group to millions of teens and pre-teens with its radio-friendly blend of pop harmonies and danceable beats. MILLENNIUM finds the Boys in the unenviable position of following up the mind-blowing success of the first album. Less ambitious artists might wither under such pressure, but the Backstreet Boys beat the dreaded sophomore slump in style. In the tradition of the debut, the album is a combination of romantic ballads guaranteed to make your little sister sob, and syncopated, eminently danceable, upbeat tunes. Throughout, it's the rich combination of the members' voices that creates the distinctive ...

$8.99 NO STRINGS ATTACHED was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. "Bye Bye Bye" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Record Of The Year and for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
It would be easy to dismiss N Sync off the cuff as the second band to reach popularity in a passing fad (the resurgence of photogenic boy groups). With the success of fellow Orlando-ites Backstreet Boys, one might assume N Sync would be forever overshadowed. However, when you sell 2.4 million copies of one record in its first week, you've pretty much earned the removal of the epithet, "passing fad." On NO STRINGS, N Sync pulls off feats of wonder through taking a formula and injecting it with stronger twists of talent than many of their competitors.
"Space Cowboy (Yippie-Ki-Yay)" features TLC's Left Eye and the combined force actually manages some funk Rick James could admire. The requisite ballads are present, and it's hard to ignore the sensuality of the lead single, "Bye Bye Bye." N Sync even benefits from a deft ...

$22.65 "The Great Beyond" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
As 1999 closed out, the genius of anarchist comedian Andy Kaufman came to light in a Milos Forman film named for an early '90s R.E.M. SONG that was a tribute to the late entertainer. Fittingly, the Athens, GA group was brought in to compose the score. Like the quirky comic, the soundtrack to his life story is an unconventional collection of songs. Aural landmarks include the previously released title track, the Sandpipers' "Mighty Mouse Theme (Here I Come to Save ...

$7.59 "Genie In A Bottle" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
"What A Girl Wants" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Christina Aguilera rocketed to the top of the charts with the smash hit "Genie in a Bottle" from this self-titled debut and placed herself among a leading generation of young, multi-talented pop artists. Like fellow performers Britney Spears, J.C. and Justin of 'N Sync, and actress Keri Russell, who stars in the TV show Felicity, Aguilera is a graduate of the New Mickey Mouse Club television program.
Songs such as "What a Girl Wants" with its guitar-driven melody, and the soulful gospel strain of "So Emotional" show Christina Aguilera's polish. Some of the other tracks that stand out are the powerful "I Turn to You," which was written by Diane Warren; "Reflection," which was produced ...
