Baby Soundtrack CD music
$14.79 Jason Robert Brown's one-act song cycle The Last 5 Years -- which earned an off-Broadway production that opened at the Minetta Lane Theatre in New York's Greenwich Village on March 3, 2002 -- is a two-character pocket musical about the relationship between a successful young writer and an aspiring actress. Brown adopts a particularly complex structure to tell this contemporary New York City love story; Jamie (Norbert Leo Butz) presents his version in chronological order, while Catherine (Sherie René Scott) moves backward in time. Thus, the show begins with Catherine's "Still Hurting," about her pain from the breakup of her five-year marriage to Jamie, and the second song is Jamie's "Shiksa Goddess," in which this young Jew exults in having met Catherine, whose chief attribute for him is that she isn't Jewish. And so back and forth it goes: In "See I'm Smiling," the third song, Catherine details the reasons why the marriage is falling apart, then in the fourth song, "Moving Too ...
| | Miles Davis Dark Magus CD (1974) Japan
Baby Soundtrack music CDs
$40.99 In the context of Miles Davis' early '70s electric experimentation, DARK MAGUS seems like the final overload. It is a wall of screaming sound; a descent into a sonic abyss from which there can be no escape. The band is a polyphony of rhythm, three banshee-like electric guitars, two saxophones trying to make some harmonic sense of this post-modern revival meeting, and one headless-horseman of ...

| | Hank Crawford Wildflower CD (1973) Japan
Baby Soundtrack music CDs
$19.49 Hank Crawford's '60s sides for Atlantic rightfully established him among the preeminent soul-jazz saxophonists. For pure phrasing and feel, Crawford was in a class by himself. When Creed Taylor kicked off CTI in 1970, he brought Crawford on board immediately. This date from 1973 -- one of eight cut between 1971 and 1978 -- is Crawford's strongest for the label and one of the better records of his career, though jazz purists would never agree. Produced and arranged by Bob James with a smoking cast that includes Joe Beck, Idris Muhammad, Richard Tee, and Bob Cranshaw, as well as a brass section of crack New York studio cats, Wildflower is the album Crawford had been trying to make since 1971. Recorded in two days, the band provides a slick, right, colorful platform for Crawford's melodic improvisation that is rooted in the art of the phrase. One long note held on "Mr. Blues" or a series of carefully articulated verbal feelings, such as on "Corazon," may not step out of the groove, but make it both a deeper blue and as wide as the human heart's complexity. On the title cut, with a vocal chorus in the background, Crawford turns a pop melody into a torrent of raw emotionalism and savvy groove-conscious glory. James' charts are big but never obtrusive; they point ...
