| | Lost American Bluesmen CD Lost American Bluesmen Discography of CDs
Lost American Bluesmen include: Jimmie Lee Robinson, Willie Hudson, Frank Scott, Bill Warren, Sleepy Otis Hunt. Recorded in 1996. Recording information: Studio M, Waukegan, IL (1995-1996). Unknown Contributor Roles: Frank Scott; Bill Warren; Jimmie Lee Robinson; Willie Hudson. Put together by Jimmie Lee Robinson, this album brings together several older Chicago sideman who have had scant chance (if any) to record as soloists, and most of whom had given up the business and were brought back out of retirement for this session. Harmonica man Sleepy Otis Hunt opens and closes the set with powerful performances on "Leave Here Running" and "Pick No Cotton." Frank Scott checks in with strong turns on "Reap What You Sow," "The Ghetto," "American Bluesmen" and "Double Trouble." Drummer Bill Warren turns in three solid numbers with his remake of "Riding in My Jaguar," "Black Cat Blues" and "Big Fine Girl." Willie Hudson (perhaps the most modern artist here and the youngest at age 56) turns in two fine performances while Jimmie Lee Robinson emerges from his producer/sideman role for "I Was Wrong" and "Jumping in Chicago." All of these artists have long pedigrees in the blues field (most dating back to the 1950s heyday of Chicago blues) and prove that they still have plenty of gas left in their respective tanks. ~ Cub Koda

In an era when acolytes like the Rolling Stones were emerging as his torch-bearers, Muddy reasserts his primacy in a hard-hitting set full of signature tunes like "Got My Mojo Working" and "Hoochie Coochie Man," with no small amount of assistance from a rock-solid band that includes the guitars of Sammy Lawhorn and Luther "Georgia Boy" Johnson supporting Muddy's own devilish slide ...

| | Fred Moolten Snakebite & Valentine CD (2007)
Lost American Bluesmen
$9.85 With "Snakebite And Valentine", Fred Moolten consolidates his reputation as one of the more remarkable artists to emerge in this new century, offering fans and newcomers alike a masterful blend of emotion, insight, and musical inspiration in genres that run from folk to a touch of blues and even a hint of country. The title, borrowed from the first song, "Corner Of Snakebite And Valentine", reflects a familiar Fred Moolten theme - human experience as a cloth woven from joy and regret. The "snake" is the serpent whose fatal bite sends Eurydice of Greek legend to the underworld, where her love, Orpheus, follows her into the depths to persuade Death to release her, only to lose her once more when he violates the promise not to look back. Anyone who listens to the song expecting ponderous philosophy or mournful harmonies will be joyfully surprised, however. Conventionality is not a hallmark of a Fred Moolten song; rather, each song in this album is unique in its own way. All, in turn partake of the songwriter’s mysterious gift for penetrating to the core of experience through a combination of unsentimental realism, compassion, sorrow, humor, and even frivolity in a mix that varies from one tune to another. The artists who perform on "Snakebite And Valentine" include some familiar to Fred Moolten fans but also important new talents. Vocalist Dale Cinski (tracks 1,3,4,7,9,12), who also contributes his virtuosity on guitar and bass, brings a sincerity to his performance that strikingly enhances the feeling ...
