| | Ayub Ogada En Mana Kuoyo CD Ayub Ogada Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
When listening to this album, one is struck immediately by the unique sound. The powerful, resonating nyatiti (a stringed instrument similar to the lyre) and Ogada's reflective, subdued vocals are unlike anything you've ever heard. They're also almost the only things you will hear on this disc, the only embellishment being the occasional light percussion or wind instrument. Ogada sings in his native Kenyan tongue, of the beliefs and traditions of his people. "Go far, see the world, but don't forget where you come from," he intones in the song "Chiro," a sentiment he has obviously taken to heart. There are no pounding rhythms on this record, nothing you can dance to, but it is memorable nonetheless, and makes a strong case for the beauty of restraint. ~ Steve McMullen
Personnel includes: Ayub Ogada (vocals, nyatiti, percussion, flutes).

| | Steeleye Span Hark! The Village Wait CD (1970)
En Mana Kuoyo CD music
$14.45 Whether newly written, as with the Morris-style "A Calling-On Song," or familiar ballads, the songs are uniformly excellent, as are the performances. This lineup actually disbanded immediately upon completing the album and never performed live, but HARK! THE VILLAGE WAIT is regardless one of the finest British folk-rock albums ever.
Steeleye Span's debut album, 1970's HARK! THE VILLAGE WAIT--a "wait" being a medieval village band--is a landmark of British folk-rock, a folk supergroup equivalent to the legendary Masked Marauders. Ashley Hutchings formed Steeleye Span after he left Fairport Convention, following disagreements with Sandy Denny over the latter band's direction, Martin Carthy naming it in homage to an obscure folk tune called "Horkstow ...
| | Grease 2 CD (1982) Original Soundtrack
En Mana Kuoyo music CDs
$7.59 For a sequel to the highest grossing musical of all time, Grease 2 is content on leaving behind the far-reaching magnitude and quality of the music that songwriters like John Farrar immortalized. As far as casting goes, Grease utilized the innocent appeal and gifted vocals of Olivia Newton-John and profited greatly from that casting decision. Michelle Pfeiffer is an arguably better actress than Newton-John, and even though her appeal has lasted through generations, she does not measure as well on the musical ...

| | Gustavo Cerati Bocanada CD (1999)
En Mana Kuoyo album
$7.69 "Bocanada" was nominated for the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song.
Although this album was Gustavo Cerati's second solo effort, it was the first one released after Soda Stereo split. After that, he just worked as a part of electronic bands like Plan V and Ocio. This long-awaited album was his return to pop, and in fact he combined his devotion to electronic music with the pop songs that made him famous. A song like "Río Babel" demonstrates this mix, and also the midtempo cadence that dominates the album. There are some beautiful and outstanding songs, like "Bocanada," "Puente," and "Aquí y Ahora," this last one inspired by the story "El Jardín de los Senderos Que Se Bifurcan" by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. An orchestra of 48 musicians participates in "Verbo ...

| | Paul Soniat Born In New Orleans CD (2005)
En Mana Kuoyo album
$18.99 Born at the old Touro Hospital in New Orleans, Paul Soniat is the son of a North Louisiana school teacher and a New Orleans Frenchman whose family had been in the city since 1727. Paul grew up in Uptown New Orleans on the street that bears his family name. For the past 23 years he has been directing the efforts to turn an old forgotten garden into one of the country's premier Botanical Gardens. A self taught piano player, Paul has absorbed the sights, sounds, and flavor of New Orleans. The CD at first listen is immediately likable. His humor, insight, and ability to capture the essence of his hometown will become evident when you listen to his music. In his title track,"Born in New Orleans", he writes,"couldn't write this song if I wasn't born in New Orleans". Believe me, that's an honest assessment.Although some of his songs were written many years ago, Born in New Orleans is Paul's debut album. He has performed on numerous occasions for family and friends, but gave his first public performance last year. That performance was a tremendous success. So overwhelmed by the positive response, the demand for his CD was created. Thus began the journey to release "Born in New Orleans". So after years of private performances,Paul is excited about the opportunity ...
