(1 Customer Review)
On his 1981 album, SEDUZIR, Brazilian performer Djavan offers up a buoyant set of Portuguese-language pop. Possessing a resonant singing voice that often recalls Stevie Wonder (see the lightly funky "Pedro Brasil" and the R&B-tinged title track), ... Seduzir album
$11.99 In the '90s, the '70s nostalgia boom finally kicked in, working its way into fashion, TV, and of course, music and film. VELVET GOLDMINE is a sterling example of those last two media, a music-oriented film centered around '70s style and powered by a glam-centric soundtrack that features both the original era's artisans and new worshippers at the '70s altar. The pounding piano and art school dandy aura of Roxy Music's "Virginia Plain" is cultural ground zero for VELVET GOLDMINE. Roxy synthesist Brian Eno contributes one of his early pop tracks, "Needle in the Camel's Eye." Largely forgotten Roxy peers Cockney Rebel are represented by CR vocalist Steve Harley's "Make Me Smile." Naturally, no glam-oriented ...
| | Elliott Smith Xo CD (1998)
Seduzir CD music
$11.99 The Cinderella-esque climb from lo-fi indie cult artist to Grammy nominee/major label darling must have been a perilous one for Smith, who makes the leap to the big time here after three well-regarded albums on small labels. He's lost none of his bite, though. The production values on XO may be slightly higher, but Smith's vision remains undiluted.
The production, centered around acoustic guitar augmented by keyboards and lush vocal harmonies, recalls pop icons like the Beach Boys (especially on the closing acapella cut), Beatles and Big Star, but this is no sunny Cali-pop album. Leavening the instrumental brightness are Smith's Nick Drake-ish whisper and his thoroughly downcast lyrics, which cast him squarely in the Mark Eitzel/Smog camp of unrelenting self-effacement and misery. The combination of Smith's internal angst and his melodic pop constructions makes for a compelling artistic tension.

| | Arcade Fire Funeral CD (2004)
Seduzir songs
$12.25 Favorably compared to the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and Broken Social Scene, the Arcade Fire's sound seems to come from a lifetime of listening to the Cure, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, and many others--even a dose of soul gets worked into these grand anthems. Chassagne delivers some spellbinding vocals on "Haiti," while the tinkling piano and strings on "Crown of Love" conjure up a heartbroken surfside prom. In 2004, this made many critics' year-end lists, and it's no wonder--the songs on FUNERAL are so packed with unique instrumentation, mesmerizing build-ups, and galvanizing tempo changes that they seem culled from some enigmatic, decade-spanning rock anthology.
This Montreal ensemble's fiery debut is marked by surging guitars, soulful strings, driving drums, brilliant bass lines, and the quavering vocals of married couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. The group's song structures careen through a vast territory of musical and ...

| | Do Or Die D.O.D (Slow) CD (2005) Chop
Seduzir music CDs
$12.59 Chicago, Illinois possesses a rich gangster history and the pimp-touting trio Do or Die has chronicled its connection to this fabled city, peppering its sound with the swirling Rap-a-Lot flavor. With its 2004 album, D.O.D., Do or Die sever ties with its label of nearly a decade and team up with its hometown's wunderkind Kanye West, among others, for the group's most colorful album yet.
Do or Die opens the record with a furious energy, an anger that hits its peak when the act lays down some ground rules on "Chain of Command." After an interlude noting Do or Die's important place in the hardcore-rap world, the threesome slow down the tempo, with singer Remy Ma dropping by for the mellow-yet-sinister "U Already Know." "Higher" thrives on its Kanye West hook, while "Magic Chick" combines R. Kelly's honeyed soul with rugged rap. Do or ...

Seduzir album
$14.15 Classically trained saxophonist/composer Michel Portal is one of the prime movers in the French jazz scene and a frequent collaborator with diverse musicians from both Europe and America. BIRD WATCHING shows he has no intention of mellowing out anytime soon. Portal alternates between clarinet, alto, and soprano saxophones in a program of original material that finds him locking horns with the fine American tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby. The overall tone of the disc is overcast and ominous, the rhythms ...
