The third album from Old Man's Child fails to expand or improve upon the group's earlier work. Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion is certainly an imposing slab of black metal, but its thick, noisy sound and lumbering riffs simply fail to rise above the genre norm. ~ Jason Ankeny

Amazing musician and still the fire burns! If your looking for true black/death metal or what ever you want to call it, this is a band that has talent and a true embrace of what evil is and what heavy metal can be and if your looking for shredding guitars and vocal mayhem with doses of evil keyboards then you've got Old Man's chlid to experience and if you have'nt then you sholud be a shamed! (to be honest Galder is better in OMC than Dimmu Borgir) Submitted by Spine Splitter (Tampa,Fl) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Perfect CD! I liked everything about this CD - every song was good; had catchy rythems; had clear vocals; liked what the lyrics had to say and they were easy to read; this CD really connected with me - perfect music! Note: I also gave their other CD, "The Pagan Prosperity", 5 stars, and consider both CDs to be exceptional! Submitted by neutrality (Rochester, MN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion album
$12.89 Words cannot do this album enough justice. This is a truly glorious metal release, certainly Death's finest hour, and easily one of the top metal albums of all time. The sheer ferocity and emotion that channels through each of the intricate, progressive guitar melodies shatters every low opinion of the American metal scene. When you combine Chuck Schuldiner's shrieking vocals (his eeriest performance ever) with the most talented, cohesive lineup yet, you get the definitive Death album. This album delicately mixes the best aspects of past albums Human, Individual Thought Patterns, and Symbolic and takes them one step further. The album is more aggressive, more progressive, and certainly more melodic. Therefore, when opener "Scavenger of Human Sorrow" kicks off, the complexity of the music suffocates the listener, allowing him no room to breathe. Even the instrumental piece, "Voice of the Soul," requires the listener's full attention so that he can grasp the raw emotion carefully woven within. No "true" metal listener can ignore the fact that Death have carefully crafted the perfect album for the metal world, an album which draws from the creative pool of Atheist, Dream Theater, and Cynic yet remains pure unadulterated Death. The ungodly solos and leads that swim within "Story to Tell" and "Spiritcrusher" (which contains one of the most terrifying, ...

| | Dimmu Borgir Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropy CD (2001)
Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion CD music
$13.35 In spite of straying so far from its black metal roots as to almost seem a completely different band at times, Dimmu Borgir still packs a powerful punch on Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. New guitarist Galder (formerly of Old Man's Child) nicely infuses more traditional metallic mannerisms, but the addition of drummer Nicholas Barker (Cradle of Filth and Lock Up) is critical. His always-punishing percussive prowess allows the seamless melding of speedy black metal with considerably more orchestration, this time around provided by the Gothenburg Opera Orchestra itself, creating a cacophony of nefarious melodies atop gothic gloom. "Puritania" is indicative of something the band probably would never have tried even a few years ago, a stirring descant with a myriad of vocal styles seemingly coming from all directions. A minority of purists might see this as too much of a departure, ...

$13.69 DJ Rib (Razed in Black, Transmutator) mixes together whatever goth the Cleopatra label had readily at hand for the double-disc set Gothika. Anyone -- goth fan or not -- would have to give massive props to Rib for being able to smoothly transition this mish-mash of tracks. Unlike his This Is Neo-Goth mix, Gothika dips all the way back to the glory days of goth when the guitar ruled supreme. Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and .45 Grave's tracks weren't recorded with the club in mind, but the DJ does an excellent job of dropping them ...

| | Anthrax Greater Of Two Evils CD (2004)
Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion CD music
$9.99 The result, THE GREATER OF TWO EVILS, is a live-to-tape performance, equally raw and refined, with very few tweaks to the original arrangements. Inspiring versions of "Caught in a Mosh," "Madhouse," and "I Am the Law" attest to the enduring appeal of Anthrax's early material. Diehard fans will love the cleverly tagged main riff from "Time" (PERSISTENCE OF TIME), used at the end of "N.F.L.," and the hidden bonus track "Lone Justice" that follows "Gung-Ho." For these same lifer fans, TWO EVILS leaves one bittersweet pang; originally joining the fold at the same time as Belladonna, bassist Frank Bello exited Anthrax to tour with the reformed Helmet, making TWO EVILS his last album after nearly 20 years with the group.
If any group deserves to be renowned as "the people's metal band" it is surely Anthrax. With the exciting notion of re-recording a set of their 1980s-era material (when ...
