I remember this LP getting the label "unlistenable." Well, if you don't know what you're in for, I suppose. But then you miss Atkins attack of the drums, not like machinegun fire, but sporadic, even deliberate, like a Colt 45 being fired into a crowd. Keith Levene was an exciting guitarist as the early single "Public Image" made clear but here his noodling is twisted and distorted. I rather like Mr. Lydon's nasty call to prayer on Four Enclosed Walls. It,alone, will set alot of folks off, for sure. These aren't happy pop songs. P.I.L let the bubblegum crowd do that. Sparse, harrowing, and unforgettable. Classic.
