Gore minus mode
Great treatment of other people's songs. Best songs on the album - Smile in the Crowd, Gone, and Never turn your back on Mother Earth.
I would like to hear an album of this artist's original solo work as well - if there are any out there.
Hard to say who is the better songwriter or musician - Martin or Robert Smith (The Cure) or even for that matter, the better band - D Mode or the dead men (I mean) The Cure?

The singing is beautiful, the songs are okay.
As much as I adore Martin Gore, I have to rate this album with 4 stars instead of 5. I am always impressed by Martin's smooth, vibrato voice, and it is always a pleasure to hear him sing. However, I think these songs are slightly lacking. I found the music redundant, and the lyrics, well they're okay. I have to question why Martin didn't write the songs for his solo album? Hopefully he was not underestimating his magnificent capabilities as a songwriter. In the end I think this album is definitely worth owning, and Martin as always, will bring a tear to your eye.

A new sound for Martin L. Gore
As a big fan of Martin Gore, I really liked his solo album Counterfeit. It sounds different and smoother than Depeche Mode but it's great anyway. 'Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth' is surely the greatest song on the album, but 'Motherless Child' really worth to be listened. I think the whole album is the most eccentric I've heard, either for the lyrics or the sound. It's an all new world that deserves to be discovered! Go on Martin! You're the best!!
