While the disc was widely considered to be the most accessible Boredoms album up to that point, that notion is qualified by the fact that the word "accessible" doesn't seem to exist in the ensemble's vocabulary. Despite the presence of ... Full Descriptiona few more melodies, this is still art-damaged, chaos-obsessed, genre-hopping music that delves into everything from speed metal to Krautrock to collages of pure cacophony. As always, frontman Yamatsuka Eye's arsenal of screams, yelps, and vocal histrionics is the group's main weapon, as revealed on SYNTHESIZER's metal-tinged opener, "Acid Police." Other highlights include the visceral "Action Synthesizer Hero," the insanely giddy "B for Boredoms," and the herky-jerky "I'm Not Synthesizer (YPY?)." Though any Boredoms release is bound to be bizarrely fascinating, CHOCOLATE SYNTHESIZER stands out as one of the mercurial band's best offerings.
In 1994, the Japanese noise-rock collective Boredoms gained its widest exposure in the US as the opening act for that year's first leg of the Lollapalooza touring festival. Drawing acclaim for its kinetic live performances, the almost innately spastic group followed up with CHOCOLATE SYNTHESIZER, its second full-length major-label outing.

Rolling Stone (7/13-7/27/95, p.111) - "...Without question, the Boredoms are one of the most bizarre, adventurous bands on the planet, but for anyone who doesn't thrill to disjointed beats and cacophonous clatter, CHOCOLATE SYNTHESIZER may be a tough sweet to swallow." Spin (3/95, pp.95-96) - 6 (out of 10) - "...Their dissonant vocal repertoire...combined with herky-jerky stop-start thrash and spontaneous feedback explosions, hardly beckons for repeated plays. CHOCOLATE SYNTHESIZER is...less abrasive than last year's POP TATARI...leaning more toward conventional song structures..." Chocolate Synthesizer album
$8.59 CURTIS is the first solo album by R&B/soul legend Curtis Mayfield. After leaving the Impressions, Mayfield began to write lyrics that were more politically charged. With the 1970 release of CURTIS, he became one of the most important socially conscious artists of his generation. The album's opener, "(Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below We're All Going to Go" uses racial epithets openly, as Mayfield asserts the shiftlessness of America. Set to a funky groove, with smart horn arrangements and wah-wah guitar, this song is a brazen attack on social mores, racism, the Vietnam War, religious impropriety, and Nixon-era politics.
"We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue" is another track that poignantly examines the race and class struggles of urban America. This song is made up of more than just a static groove; its tempos shift midway through and powerful brass figures, timpani punctuations, and harp glissandos soon dominate the mix. Also featuring the powerful "Move On Up," CURTIS is a classic soul record, and its relevance is amplified by its quest for racial ...

Chocolate Synthesizer CD music
$12.85 Both of Suicide's first two proper records are technically untitled, and FIRST ALBUM (also sometimes called the "Red Star Album" after the cover symbol) was barely heard at the time of its initial 1977 release. Suicide were easily the most underground of the major artists of the New York punk scene, but as the decades pass, this record's influence on electronic rock and rock minimalism is obvious. The connection to the synth-pop and industrial music that came immediately after is obvious, but listening anew to FIRST ALBUM, it's not a stretch to wonder if later bands such as the White Stripes weren't familiar with bluesy, obviously retro songs like "Frankie Teardrop" and "Ghost Rider." Reading this album's press clippings does not adequately prepare one ...

Chocolate Synthesizer songs
$11.79 Easily one of the most bizarre ensembles to ever grace a major label, Japan's Boredoms debuted on Reprise Records in 1993, riding a strange cloud of buzz that was generated by Sonic Youth, the Beastie Boys, and other outsider-loving bands. While fans of avant-garde saxophonist John Zorn had already heard Boredoms frontman Yamatsuka Eye's frenetic yelps on the former's Naked City recordings, POP TATARI introduced the US alternative-rock crowd to the wildly eclectic and chaotic "bore" aesthetic. Clearly nobody tried to rein in the Osaka-based collective's manic energy on this outing, since the record is filled with propulsive rhythms, metallic guitar freak-outs, and abrupt stylistic shifts. Even songs that seem to cling to a pop melody (see the chiming keyboard line of "Bore Now Bore") are gleefully sabotaged by sharp bursts of noise. Although most rock fans will ...

Chocolate Synthesizer CD music
$23.75 GRAVITY X, released in 2005, is the debut of Swedish four-man fuzz-rock band Truckfighters, whose stoner rock conjures up images of bands like Fu Manchu and Sleep.
On their debut full-length, the Swedish band Truckfighters resurrect the spirit of the decibel-heavy 1970s to stunning effect in a series of monolithic pieces of sludge-rock that recall both the all-out onslaught of Grand Funk Railroad and the space-rock excursions of Hawkwind, as well as contemporaries like Queens Of The Stone Age.
It has been quite awhile since a stoner rock band made such an impact on me as the oddly named Truckfighters from Sweden. These guys play stoner rock right, with fuzz galore and spaced out textures and trippy atmospheres that can only be fully appreciated upon a non-stop voyage through the outer limits of Gravity X. You've gotta really sit back and tune out when you listen to this stuff, as only then will you really get sucked in for the ride. From the catchy, Kyuss-flavored opener "Desert Cruiser" to the moody, absurdly melodic trippiness of "Momentum" to the ...
