Recorded live at Le Bataclan, Paris, France on June 25, 1998.
LIVE AT THE MARQUEE is a 1993 live set by Los Angeles-based progressive rockers Dream Theater, featuring "Metropolis."
Dream Theater finally released their first official live album, the double-disc Once in a Livetime (recorded June 1998 in Paris). Granted, the 1995 release A Change of Seasons contained a wealth of live material, but they were all cover songs, and 1994's Live at the Marquee was only available as a European import. With material spanning their entire career, the many die-hard Dream Theater fans will love Once in a Livetime, but it won't win over disbelievers to their highly technical, sometimes cold style. There's no denying that the band's musicianship is top-notch, but the songs often get repetitious and start sounding similar. But Once in a Livetime may be a breath of fresh air if you've had it with smug alterna-wannabes who can hardly play, or if you long for the glory days of Yes or ELP (in other words, the music punk rock tried to annihilate). Highlights include their instrumental tour de force "Ytse Jam," as well as the fan favorites "Pull Me Under," "Lie," "Metropolis," and certain portions of their lengthy "A Change of Seasons" composition. Also released in conjunction with Once in a Livetime was the home video Five Years in a Livetime. ~ Greg Prato
This is a live recording featuring songs from When Dream and Day Unite and Images and Words. There really isn't that much going on here that can't be heard on the studio records. "A Fortune in Lies" is treated with more aggression than the original and remains one of their gems from the past. "Bombay Vindaloo" is a jam session that features some creative drumming from Mike Portnoy and some diverse playing from John Petrucci. Especially impressive were the muted, Al DiMeola-style quotes. "Another Hand - The Killing Hand" is a combination of an instrumental ("Another Hand") commonly featured in their live shows and the now-infamous "The Killing Hand." The latter is given a great update by singer James LaBrie and probably didn't have too many people missing Charlie Dominici. This is a good live session that will appeal mostly to the diehards of this excellent progressive metal band. ~ Robert Taylor

Live At The Marquee Music Dream Theater Live At The Marquee Songs Live At The Marquee Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews I never thought DT was so cool back in 1993 My friendship with DT began With "Scenes From...". Then I found this. And it was great.Listening to this I can feel the passion this music is being played with. It sounds really LIVE. The musicianship to be witnessed is astonishing. My faves are "Pull Me Under", "Metropolis pt.1" and "A Fortune In Lies", but the rest is great too. They have (as always)a great stylistic variety: from mellow, ballad-like moments to powerful, crushing heavy metal. Complicated song structures and interesting arrangements. I like it! great live ep would you expect anything less... on the first "official" live recording Dream Theater smokes. First two albums represented as well as an instrumental never before released. Only six tracks, but cd universe has the lowest import price I've found. Submitted by Robbo (Buffalo, N.Y.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Its great, but its got one problem... This is an increbile album. When i first listened to this album i was amazed at how good Labrie sounded, do u want to know wht he sounded better in that album than the rest of hte other live ones? Some of the vocals were overdubbed. Submitted by Paul (g'boro, nc, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Every DT fan must own !!! This is the best 'live' DT album they had up until 'live at budakon'. it's a little short compared to their 3-hour shows these days, but it's worth it! you get 'fortune in lies' ( killer drummin', portnoy's always had it!), of course ... 'pull me under', also, 'surrounded', 'killing hand' { with an extended solo by petrucci, it's sick!), my favorite, 'bombay vindaloo'( an instrumental, that has some of kevin moore's and peturcci's best shredding ), and 'metropolis pt1' ( which started it all ). GREAT LIVE RECORDING! all instuments are clear and present and barely any noise. be glad this album is still in circulation! do yourself a favor and get it! Submitted by Gill, T.
