Paul McCartney/Wings (Paul McCartney): Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, piano, bass guitar); Denny Laine (vocals, guitars, piano, bass instrument); Jimmy McCulloch (vocals, guitars, bass instrument); Linda McCartney (vocals, keyboards); Joe English (vocals, drums).
When McCartney formed Wings back in 1971, it was intended to be a touring unit as much as a recording one. After spending the latter half of his time with the Beatles confined to the studio, McCartney was itching to get back onto the road. By the time September 1975 rolled around, Wings' tours had been on the modest side. This latest one would last over a year and take the band around the world. The triple-album WINGS OVER AMERICA was recorded during this time and despite its heft, the performances within contained no filler and were bristling with energy from start to finish.
Wings' secret weapon was guitarist Jimmy McCulloch, an underrated musician whose playing lit up the opening medley of "Venus And Mars/Rock Show/Jet" and "Hi Hi Hi." Along with material from a mix of Wings albums, McCartney proudly revisited his past by dusting off latter-day Beatles songs which had previously been studio-only manifestations ("Lady Madonna," "Blackbird"). WINGS OVER AMERICA clearly showed that McCartney was the first Beatle to settle comfortably into touring regularly in addition to dealing well with his musical past.
Out of print in the U.S.! Wings Over America, the double live album (two CD set) that reached #1 on the Billboard albums chart, chronicled the American portion of Macca and Wings' 1976 world tour. Paul had surprised fans by including Beatles songs among his live set for the first time since the fab four broke up six years earlier. Those performances of Beatles' songs, including 'Yesterday', 'Lady Madonna' and 'Long and Winding Road', are included here alongside great versions of Paul's solo gems and Wings favorites including the Top 10 version of 'Maybe I'm Amazed'. 28 tracks total including a cover version of Simon & Garfunkel's 'Richard Cory' and the Macca-penned 'Soily', neither of which are available anywhere else. EMI.

rock 'n roll I became a wings fan over nigt watching a programe about the world tour 1975-76.
My altime favorit album wich i can listen to over and over again is Wings over america. It rocks !!
I love all numbers and the whole concert is unike. It has to be played loud to get the rock'n roll feeling.
it should be a classic amongst rock records. the original 3 set lp has like 6 sides of perfect mini koncerts and that is lost a little on the 2 cd set but I still love to hear the whole koncert on a long car ride......
A must have for rock fans and PMC fans

How come no one's heard of it??? I can't understand why this album has been delted domestically. It definitely easily ranks right up there with the top 5 or 6 best live releases of the 70s (my favourite being Live at Leeds or course). I'm one of the weird people who prefers Paul's post-Beatles stuff to John's and this live album just verifies why. It seriously kicks ass. It's not only an incredible performance that rivals any live album I've ever heard but it was actually captured on disc. Many times (ie the Stones) a great live band never manages to really capture a great performance(s) for release. This Wings album perfectly summarizes what Paul was about in the 70s before he fell into his 80s slump. This is everything you could wish for in a Wings live album and it's full of great performances and captures the energy that was present during Wings' live shows. A sadly underapreciated gem from what was a truly great band (even though they recorded a couple REALLY sappy songs). Submitted by dverbin (Thornhill, Ontario,Canada) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
One of the best live albums of the last decade This great live recording has been out of print in this country for some time now. Thanks to CD Universe, you and I can now order the import which from what I can see is just the same as the origenal US version. All the songs that were once on three records are now on two discs and the sound quality is as good if not better. If you don't remember this oldie then I highly recomend getting it, you'l never forget it.

70's McCartney Live And Rock'in! This album is Macca's first live shows in the USA, 1975-76. It ROCKS! Paul's bass playing is incredible, powerful and driving!
Even though many of the songs on this album have not aged that well, these reditions are awesome! This Wings line up was truly the best. Great guitars, drums, vocals and did I mention BASS! Paul's the best! By the way I saved over $20 here at CD Universe! Submitted by a reviewer (Meridian, Idaho) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
