| | Brian Eno Music For Onmyo-Ji CD - Import Brian Eno Discography of CDs
This 34-track, two-disc release features ambient music composed by Brian Eno and Peter Schwalm for the popular Japanese anime film ONMYOJI.
A double-CD, released only in Japan, which marks the first major team-up between Brian Eno and Peter Schwalm before their widely released Drawn From Life CD. The music on disc one is comprised of 14 tracks of traditional Japanese instruments, which are more appropriate for this CD, which is meant to accompany the Reiko Okano/Baku Yumemakura manga. The second disc leads one to ask what Schwalm actually adds to the mix in this collaboration. The sonic palette is very typical of Eno, with treated piano, synth washes, and a general modal sound to the floating proceedings. "Faraway Suns" has a rhythm to it, as well as some silvery, manipulated vocals, but it's not too far removed from Music for Films III. Schwalm would be more equal on Drawn From Life, but here he seems in awe of working with the master. An expensive purchase, by the way, import as it is -- worth it mostly to the Eno fanatic. ~ Ted Mills

Music For Onmyo-Ji album
$11.29 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, as it mixes up the show tunes, gospel, and Christmas carols with covers of Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses," and a version ...
| | Jimmy Buffett Buffet Hotel CD (2009)
Music For Onmyo-Ji CD music
$9.74 Since Jimmy Buffett never leaves his comfort zone, it's hard to call 2009's Buffet Hotel a return to roots but, in a way, it is. Discounting the mock rap on "Turn Up the Heat and Chill the Rosé," this album doesn't even have the lingering country and reggae flavors that seasoned 2006's Take the Weather with You, with all of the songs riding a cool, mellow country-rock wave, the kind that has been his stock-in-trade since the `70s. There's a difference between being part of a tradition and being stuck in the past and Buffett is surely in the former, not shying away from the new millennial mess, admitting that we all have "A Lot to Drink About" and never flinching from his advancing years, most ...
| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Music For Onmyo-Ji music CDs
$8.99 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," ...

| | Jason Ringenberg Pocketful Of Soul CD (2000)
Music For Onmyo-Ji songs
$13.85 After almost 20 years cranking out high-voltage cowpunk with Jason & the Scorchers, lead singer/songwriter/auteur Jason Ringenberg takes a trip back -- way back -- to his roots on his sophomore solo album, and first for his own label. Freed from the electrified confines of his band, Rigenberg's pure, yearning, high-lonesome voice rings out clearly in this 12-song set of acoustic country, hillbilly, and Appalachian music. Whether he's covering Guadalcanal Diary's "Trail of Tears," Johnny Horton's "Whispering Pines," or singing his own songs, Ringenberg's plaintive voice and bare but appropriate instrumentation gives this album a simple, sparse, bucolic feel. It's as if he's recorded these songs around a flickering campfire out on the open prairie. In fact, the opening track features the sound ...
| | Reagan Youth Collection Of Pop Classics CD (1994)
Music For Onmyo-Ji album
$9.65 A Collection of Pop Classics could easily pass for a white supremacist album with its cover shot of guitar-toting Klansmen and song titles like "The New Aryans." Skinheads will be disappointed to find that the album cover, as well as the band's name, are actually deeply ironic commentaries on Ronald Reagan's ...
| | Chitlin Fooks Did It Again CD (2002)
Music For Onmyo-Ji CD music
$14.69 On their sophomore outing, Chitlin' Fooks, the duo of Carol Van Dijk (of former Holland alterna-rockers Bettie Serveert) and Pascal Deweze (Sukilove), continue the vein of alt-country pop they initiated on their 2001 self-titled debut. This time around, aided by a gaggle of Antwerp musicians, the duo pushes the boundaries of their chosen idiom. They no longer simply sound like a couple of talented Europeans with a serious jones for Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, ...
