This CD is so original, honest and just a delight to listen to. Hollin Wolf was such a gifted artist and his music will always live on and on...

the quintessential....
Forget everything you've heard before, forget everything others have told you about music, forget every other genre of music and start HERE...this is the beginning of modern music, the source from which all else flows. Even Robert Johnson had less influence on every music lovers' psyche from the 50's onward. Smokestack Lightnin', even after more than half a century, remains the most potent symbol of the raw emotion that suffuses great music. It's astonishing how it still causes the hair on the back of my neck to rise and my pulse to quicken the moment I hear it, and that I never tire of hearing it even after forty years. Here, in two classic albums, are the roots of music. Buy them, and modern music from then on will be understandable.

This is probably the best of all the Howlin' Wolf material out there.Contains the best of his work in one inexpensive collection. Once you get a dose of the Wolf you will never be the same.Forget about all those tame rockers.This is as raw and as real as it gets.Guaranteed to blister the paint off the walls.

This CD contains all the songs from Howlin' Wolf's first two Chess albums. They were both great, indispensable LPs, featuring some of his very best songs. They were compilations of his 1950's singles, so this CD plays like a greatest hits album but at about half the price. No one can knock the Chess "Best Of" that was released in 1998, but compare the song titles: this one has almost identical content and it's CHEAPER. Great stuff, and not to be missed.
