Tappa (sometimes "Tapper") Zukie was born David Sinclair in Jamaica. But, like his fellow countryman Mikey Dread, Tappa Zukie first gained prominence as a DJ after emigrating to England in the late '70s. Also like Dread, Tappa Zukie was embraced by the elements of the punk culture looking to authenticate their own dub experiments. Signed to Virgin Records' reggae subsidiary Front Line, Tappa Zukie released several albums of punk-influenced hard roots reggae before concentrating on production and management in the late '80s.
An early release on the fantastic British reissue label Blood and Fire, 1979's TAPPA ZUKIE IN DUB is a classic of British reggae-booming, relentless, hard-edged dub featuring the magnificent rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare and Tappa Zukie's own nimble toasting. The CD includes extensive liner notes, as do most Blood and Fire reissues, and an interview with Tappa Zukie.
UK reissue of long unavailable 1976 album by reggae dub producer, features 14 tracks including 2 extra tracks not included on original vinyl release, 'Jah Speak In Dub' & 'Way Over In Dub'. Blood & Fire Ltd. 1995.
Includes an interview with Tappa Zukie and liner notes by Steve Barrow.

NME (Magazine) (10/14/95, p.38) - 8 (out of 10) - "...IN DUB casts him as a sonic manipulator, awake at the controls in the early days of dub. Crackling, hissing, bass-heavy rhythms will make you imagine you're in a deserted dancehall at 6am and someone's stomping towards you to offer a stick of the good herb..."
