Syntax Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) Cd is ok... Good stuff... I bought this CD after hearing a few 30 second clips and liked what I heard... Not the best that I've heard, but it's good anyway... Not quite Funker Vogt or Wumpscut, but it's still good... I recommend if you like this music! Everybody in line for shock treatment !!! Informätik's SYNTAX is a very good album... but only if you appreciate electronica. This album is a very pleasant one, but sometimes a weird one at times. I explain.
The way the album begins (I'm refering to track 1 : THINGS TO COME - WAR CHANGES NOTHING MIX) one could think is about to hear some electronic dance music... But just wait for Da5id's distorted voice to set in. What's wrong ? In fact, nothing's wrong, but it's kinda odd to hear harsh indutrial lyrics and voice along with very (I mean VERY) danceable back beat. Not what you're especially waiting for a techno-industrial band. INFORMÄTIK is very dance-oriented. Of course, SYNTAX is one great release from Metropolis Records, and a very original one too. But if you're looking for something rougher, try something else. But if you love meaty techno, go for it.
The only drawback is that SYNTAX contains 2 remixes of 2 tracks on the album... and the remixes are fine but were they really necessary due to the fact that they do not sound that different after all considerations. Anyway... Submitted by thegrey (Sherbrooke, Qc) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Decoded Feedback Mechanical Horizon CD (2000)
Syntax CD music
$10.09 This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Mechanical Horizon is a release that reinforces Decoded Feedback's reputation of being able to put a solid album together. Washes of sound serve as a backdrop for solid-beat electro arrangements, the bass vocals of Marco Biagotti completing a picture of a broken darkwave future. Mechanical Horizon is a welcome addition at a time when many electro-industrial artists are taking cues from the rise of the synth pop scene. Decoded Feedback provides a contrast to this, sporting a darkness and gravity in its arrangements and mixing soft- and hard-edged electro sounds, without overburdening the music with noise and ambience. Tracks do not race against the beats-per-minute counter but retain their impact (such as "Immortal"). The dark EBM feel ...
| | Assemblage 23 Contempt CD (1999)
Syntax music CDs
$13.29 Tom Shears' debut release as Assemblage 23 is a powerful tour through a broken emotional landscape. Pulsing electro melodies hover over ethereal sweeps of sound and play against the sometimes complex rhythms and beats. On top of the layers of sound, Shears' rich vocals resurrect the notion of undistorted vocals in electro music.
The mix of moods varies, ranging from upbeat at the album's beginning ("Surface," one of the few tracks sporting vocal distortion), to melancholy minimalist ("Sun"), to plain scary (such as the pounding melodies of "Skyquake"). "Purgatory" has all the makings of a genre classic ...
| | Assemblage 23 Failure CD (2001)
Syntax songs
$13.49 After such a powerful debut release, Failure was a much-anticipated follow-up from electro act Assemblage 23. Tom Shear did not disappoint, and Failure transcended any expectation. The sound of Assemblage 23 has evolved into something darker and more refined, and Shear has more to say. The combination of these elements leaves a release that is energetic, emotive, and uses sound in an original way. Failure opens with one the ...

| | Grateful Dead Birth Of The Dead CDs (2003) Remastered
Syntax album
$21.35 For those who don't wish to bust their budgets on the 12-CD box set that this double-CD release originated from, BIRTH OF THE DEAD is an illuminating glimpse of the Grateful Dead's first steps, including demos and live tracks, which finds the collective emerging from its jug band beginnings into a vibrant folk rock outfit. They perform a rocked-up version of the ancient jug band song "Stealin'," and there's a rarity in "Fire in the City," featuring jazz singer Jon Hendricks, which was originally recorded for an anti-Vietnam War documentary. The second disc's live set includes a wealth of blues and folk covers, including Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" and the mournful "In the Pines," all played with the nervous energy of a band that's unsure of just what thrills and terrors lurk around the corner.
This two-disc collection assembles rare pre-Warner tracks recorded in 1965-66 for the Autumn (6 cuts, 4 previously unreleased) & Scorpio (8 cuts, 6 previously unreleased) labels. Also included are "Fire in the City," an ultra-rare collaboration with Jon Hendricks on Disc 1, & 15 previously unreleased live tracks from various Bay Area venues on Disc 2 (recorded by Bear). 'Birth of the Dead' was compiled by longtime Dead PR chief Dennis McNally & Lou Tambakos. The songs were digitally remastered in HDCD & the set features a 16-page booklet & is packaged in double gatefold Digipak. Rhino. 2003.
Recorded between 1965 & 1967.
Compilation producers: Dennis McNally, Lou Tambakos.
Personnel: Jerry Garcia (vocals, guitar); Ron "Pigpen" McKernan (vocals, ...

| | Timothy Harper First Forest CD (2003)
Syntax music CDs
$21.49 Timothy Harper's songs are passionate, playful, tender, and fierce, written for people who find themselves at the crossroads of history and modernity, at the cusp of self-discovery, at the knife edge of love and loss, ready to burn into life.A potent blend of Celtic themes and motifs with contemporary jazz, gypsy and rock influences, Harper's music is defined by his own solid performances on Celtic Harp and guitar. Harper's intense and generous vocals, which invite comparison to Cat Stevens, Counting Crows, and James Taylor, are the threads that tie his songs together, and make them more than just another collection of harp pieces. Poetic, powerful and strongly rendered in the tradition of singer-songwriters like Eliott Smith, Sarah McLachlan, and Jann Arden, the lyrics of Timothy Harper draw his listeners into a world where the sky between the wires is painted ...
