| | Fito Paez El Amor Despues Del Amor CD (1993)
Heroes Del Silencio (Heroe De Leyenda) music CDs
$9.99 This album is the main reason why Fito Paez became one of Argentina's most acclaimed singer/songwriters of the '90s. It's one of his artistic peaks (comparable to his darkest album, Ciudad de Pobres Corazones) and it also stands as the best-selling Argentinean album from that decade (with global sales of close to a million copies). As the album title suggests (it means "Love After Love"), this is about love rediscovered. After the breakup with singer Fabiana Cantilo, then chronicled in Tercer Mundo's "Fue Amor," Paez started a relationship with actress Cecilia Roth. The whole album is dedicated and inspired by her. It includes such hits as the title track "El Amor Despues del Amor," as well as "Un Vestido y un Amor," "A Rodar Mi Vida," and "Tumbas de la Gloria." Musically, the album combines rock, pop, Argentinean folklore, and ballads. Although it shows extreme care in the arrangements, it's less pretentious and over-produced than the rest of Paez's productions from the '90s. And it features a terrific set of guests: Charly García, Andrés Calamaro, Mercedes Sosa, and Luis Alberto Spinetta, among others. A must for anyone interested in one of the most interesting Argentinean songwriters. ~ Iván Adaime

| | Tribal Dreams: Music From Native Americans CD (2001)
Heroes Del Silencio (Heroe De Leyenda) songs
$11.39 Tribal Dreams is a compilation of Native American songs based on traditional melodies, lyrics, and instrumentation. Percussion, drums, and flutes are the main instruments used, with some non-native additions such as electric pianos and guitars. The overall sound and mood are slow, solemn, and soothing -- almost a bit too soothing. Much of this album comes across as typical new age music -- reverent and peaceful, but not suggestive of the diversity that there must surely be in Native American music. There are a few lively moments; the traditional "Cherokee Morning Song" by Walela and Andrew Vasquez' "Spirit Mountain" use female vocal choruses and constant repetition ...
| | Blind Guardian Night At The Opera CD (2002)
Heroes Del Silencio (Heroe De Leyenda) album
$11.59 Contains an untitled hidden track following " And Then There Was Silence."
Probably the most adventurous disc of Blind Guardian's career (and that's saying something with this troupe), A Night at the Opera lives up to its name by channeling Queen's most symphonic arias through a dynamic prog metal background that makes Fate's Warning's most complex licks seem positively pedestrian in comparison with a glorious production that allows every nuance to literally explode from the loudspeakers. ~ Brian O'Neill
This monumental album was in the writing stages for over two years and the band spent the better part of 2001 ...
| | Huntingtons CD (2003)
Heroes Del Silencio (Heroe De Leyenda) CD music
$11.85 Two song titles from the Huntingtons first album for Fast Music, Self-Titled Album serve as reference points for the sounds found within: "3 Chord Baby" and "The Sound (Of Inevitability"). Simple punk-pop rules the day, every day, all day. The band is stuck in a rut of mildly melodic short/fast tunes influenced by the Ramones. Some bands, like Green Day or Rancid, can make a formula like this work by the dint of their outsized hooks, cartoony personas, or sheer commitment. The Huntingtons just sound like some dudes who like to get together and play punk rock. Commendable for sure, but that doesn't mean it is essential listening. Fans of the band will certainly find plenty to like here, as this record sounds like a carbon copy of all their previous efforts. If you aren't a fan, nothing here is likely to convert you. ~ Tim Sendra

| | Bargain Music Little Taste Of... CD (2005)
Heroes Del Silencio (Heroe De Leyenda) songs
$7.45 Neither a standard greatest-hits, a proper odds-and-sods compilation, nor a normal live album, A Little Taste Of hits all of those points over the course of its 12 songs. This is, of course, entirely appropriate for an overview of Southern California's Bargain Music, a band whose previous albums have ranged from Sublime-style ska-punk to loosey-goosey jam band workouts to skewed country-rock. So here we have the woozy Tom Waits pastiche "Percolator" up against the live shaggy-dog story "Date #1" (which wouldn't sound out of place on a Jack Johnson album), both of them later followed by the ten-minute live reggae workout "Call It Quits" and the politically-charged funk workout "Rock and Stone." The only ...
