| | Randy Travis Forever & Ever CD - Import Randy Travis Discography of CDs
Country-music star Randy Travis has been considered on the of the most influential acts of the genre since his '80s heyday. This greatest-hits collection includes his first hit, "On the Other Hand," as well as other classics such as "If I Didn't Have You" and "Forever and Ever, Amen."
Before the rise of the so-called "hat acts" in the 1990s and the sleek country pop/rock of the early 21st century, and directly in the wake of the Urban Cowboy backwash, there was Randy Travis, who broke onto the country music scene in 1986 without even a thought of chasing after a crossover radio hit. Labeled a new traditionalist, Travis delivered his songs simple and straight, and never leaned on a hat or a big belt buckle to drive his roots home. This set covers his biggest hits from his Warner Brothers years, and includes the elegant and calm "If I Didn't Have You," the artful regret of "1982," the lightly rocking and wryly humorous "Before You Kill Us All," and the gentle, stripped down Western swing of "Too Gone Too Long," among other highlights. A no-frills introduction to an artist who put a little down-home dignity back into country music. ~ Steve Leggett

$11.69 The marketing department at Warner Brothers must have really wanted to get a jump on the holiday season when they released Faith Hill's 2008 Christmas album, JOY TO THE WORLD, in September. Hill's set of carols and traditional songs may not suit the late summer, but that doesn't make JOY TO THE WORLD any less of a treat. As albums like BREATHE and FIREFLIES proved, Hill has no problem crossing over to mainstream audiences, and this Christmas set (the singer's first) should strengthen that appeal. If the song selection itself isn't surprising--including the usual ...

$15.19 I'm a musician, songwriter, singer, and home-based recording studio owner, who has been playing *something* ever since my parents bought me a snare drum when I was 4 years old. (What in the world were they thinking?) Eight years of piano lessons followed, along with some high school friends who helped me get a handle on playing the guitar. These days, I play keyboards, guitar/bass, and drums. And I'm as happy being sequestered in my home studio as Lindsey Buckingham, Prince, Peter Gabriel, or Paul McCartney -- all important influences on my music, though their inspiration may be pretty hard to hear at times. My tastes are pretty eclectic. . . so I have a wide range of influences. Probably the biggest pop/rock influence was and is The Beatles (as a group as well as solo songwriters/performers), followed by Queen, Mike Oldfield, Gerry Rafferty, Abba, ELO, Prince, Kate Bush, Shakira, Peter Gabriel, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Fleetwood Mac/Lindsey Buckingham, Larry Norman, Keith Green, Daniel Amos (a group, not a person), Sinead O'Connor, Emmylou Harris, Joan Jett, Sam Phillips (AKA Leslie Phillips), Goldfrapp, Imogen Heap, K.T. Tunstall, Evanescence, Amy Grant -- and on and on and on. And I'm discovering wonderful new artists all the time -- as well as older artists I somehow overlooked during the last 40 years of pop/rock/r&b history!Given the above roster of artists, you can see that I’m really all over the map when it comes to what I like. And that’s reflected a bit in “This ...
