This 1975 album from Chris Squirem, who counts himself as a founder member of prog-rock figureheads Yes, builds on his other band's sprawling sound over the space of five songs.
Yes-like in every possible aspect, Chris Squire's Fish out of Water is an album that's typical of his band's progressive formula: softened keyboard extensions à la Patrick Moraz, steady yet atmospheric percussion work from Bill Bruford, and a smattering of flute and saxophone that accompanies a small orchestra, which includes effective horn and harp work. Squire's guitar playing is standard, coming to life the most on "Silently Falling" and "Lucky Seven," with the former boosted by a rather dazzling synthesizer solo from Moraz. Even though there are few surprises laid out on the album's five tracks, the elemental composition of pure '70s progressive rock is strewn across each song from start to finish. Squire even sounds like Jon Anderson, especially on "Hold out Your Hand," and each of the song's melodies cater to Squire's vocal ascent. Fish out of Water harbors some firm instrumental and vocal cross-breeding while remaining well within the prog rock norm. ~ Mike DeGagne

Unique Bass Style Fans of Yes or golden-age Prog should not miss this 1975 solo outing by Chris Squire. Here you have Chris's distinctive pick-style playing backed up by Bill Bruford on drums, Patrick Moraz on keyboards, Mel Collins (King Crimson) on sax, and Barry Rose (The League of Gentlemen) on church organ. There's even a full orchestra, "Fish Out of Water" is smooth and Progressive, just like Yes in the 70s. Submitted by alejandro_lozano (CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Timeless Nearly 30 years old and still the best "Yes" album since "Relayer".
Squire has a limited vocal range but uses it it to great effect on the five tracks here. Nothing goes on too long, the playing suggests a real band and the production (Squire's own) allows everything to shine through the mix.
Anyone expecting 20 minute bass solos will be dissapointed but his muscular playing and signature sound underpin everything brilliantly.
Certainly the best Yes solo album bar none and a wonderful achievement in its own right. Timeless, intelligent music that even non-fans will enjoy. If you only buy one 30 year old solo album from a member of the worlds greatest progressive rock band this year, make it this one. Submitted by warm (dublin, ireland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Brilliant Just First Class and has certainly stood the test of time. Proving without doubt his compositional skills and the fact that he is amongst the best bass players of his generation.

Different This is much different than Yes music. At points it reminds me of Sting and the Police. Mainly Chris's vocals. Overall it is a good disc and a keeper with my Yes stuff. Great bass parts for the bass players. This disc does show off Chris's bass licks for the time period it was written and recorded. If this album was recorded now it would get Chris on the cover of Bass Player magazine Submitted by a reviewer (Myrtle Bch SC USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Fish Out Of Water album
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the most resilient and consistently prolific over the next quarter century, the only sure-fire consensus would probably have been "well, anyone but Megadeth!" And yet, 12 studio albums and 150-plus songs later -- more than any of the other three have managed -- that's exactly what's come to pass. The group's second release for Roadrunner, whose title apparently refers to "coming full circle" rather than any sort of goodbye, finds the latest iteration of Megadeth-- debuting new guitarist Chris Broderick(ex-Nevermore, Jag Panzer)--working primarily within their ...

Fish Out Of Water CD music
$7.99 Although Nazareth had already broken into the big time in England with their 1973 release RAZAMANAZ, the band had yet to crack the U.S. market. Their stateside break came two years later in the form of 1975's HAIR OF THE DOG. By keeping to their high voltage rock formula the Scots band finally won U.S. rock fans over, though it didn't hurt that they included one slight musical departure, the melodic ballad ...

Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack.
"Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave the band some early exposure. ...
