Mr. "Sheer Profundity" delivered a stunning fourth solo album that probably surprised himself as well as the critics who were prepared to watch his fall from grace after the seeming failure of the intense THE SOUL CAGES. Right from the opener, "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You," the album holds its pace. That track will be seen as a classic in years to come, as will the beautiful "Fields Of Gold" and "Shape Of My Heart." Sting is established as a major artist with a solo career that has now eclipsed his former supergroup.
This DTS release of Sting's triple platinum Ten Summoner's Tales superbly remixed into 5.1 Digital Surround to enrich its already passionate and densely refined delivery. Enjoy 'If I Ever Lose My Faith In You' and 'Fields Of Gold' and other hits for this masterpiece as never before. Packaged in a DTS jewel box.
Recorded at Lake House, Wiltshire, England.

Rolling Stone (3/18/93, p.38) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...strikes the tricky balance of being both uncompromised and relaxed....TALES is loose and swinging; the joy in the playing is palpable....Sting's singing is superb, a virtual study in intelligent rock-vocal technique...masterful..." Spin (4/93, p.94) - Highly Recommended - "...his most playful record....Sting continues to emphasize his flair for haunted, existential romance..." Entertainment Weekly (3/12/93, p.60) - "...11 terse, vividly imagined gems....has plenty of catchy, unburdened moments..." - Rating: A Q (1/94, p.83) - Included in Q's list of `The 50 Best Albums Of 1993.' Probably the most critically revered band of the 70s, Steely Dan's brand of slick pop with a dose of jazz/funk left a meagre but vital catalogue to cling on to. This was their last gasp at the onset of the 80s. Perhaps they were aware of the fact that they were too 70s for the 80s. This was their least accessible and most mature album (no criticism is intended), as the content washes over the listener like a warm shower. 'Hey Nineteen' is the hit single from this set, a radio-friendly nostalgic look at 1967, impeccable in production and with evocative lyrics. Lots of echoey Fender Rhodes and sensitive brass.

ROAD TESTED is the first live album of Bonnie Raitt's storied career, and the two-disc set easily gets across the magic she makes at her concerts. Recorded in 1995, at six shows in Portland, Oregon and Oakland, California, Raitt digs deep into her catalog for clever interpretations of blues, soul and even classic new wave songs that have shaped her musical vocabulary. Constantly paying homage to her musical roots, Raitt brings on such idols as Charles and Ruth Brown, as well as contemporary VH-1 co-horts like Bruce Hornsby, Bryan Adams and Jackson Browne, to add to the fireworks. And even though the cameos of these formidable talents add up to some delightful thrills, Raitt's pure singing, biting slide guitar and crack back-up band are the main reasons why she passes this road test with flying colors.
Joined by friends like Bruce Hornsby, Jackson Browne, Bryan Adams, Kim Wilson and blues legends Ruth and Charles Brown, this 2-disc set culled from Bonnie's summer tour is moving, energetic, and extremely entertaining. Features 22 tracks including "Thing Called Love," "Love Letter," "Louise," "Come to Me," "Rock Steady," "Love Sneakin' Up on You" and ...

By 1975, Eric Clapton was coming off the smash success of 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD. If his last album was a cathartic release after coming out of a battle with drug addiction, then THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD was the first record where Clapton could catch his breath. Having become enamored with reggae after riding Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" to the top of the charts around the world, E.C. chose to record in Kingston, Jamaica. Although recordings of Clapton with Peter Tosh first surfaced over a decade later ...

While the Moodies were never exactly a rocker's delight, SEVENTH SOJOURN, the seventh recording with the post-Denny Laine lineup, is perhaps their most ballad-heavy album. Ironically, the album's biggest hit, which would become one of the group's signature songs, was the uncharacteristically uptempo "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band." Elsewhere, appearances are equally deceiving; interpersonal tensions had developed in the band to the point where there wouldn't be another Moody Blues album for six years, but the album is full of slow, romantic musings, not signs of strife.
As usual, it's Justin Hayward, he of the silky voice and heart-on-a-sleeve lyricism, who excels ...

Ten Summoner's Tales Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Excellent Extremely enjoyable for those 5.1 junkies like myself. Sting's best album in a very solid surround mix. Instruments and effects are well placed, pretty much matching what I thought they would be before I heard it. I think 'consistent' is the word that sums it all up for me, sonically and musically. Nothing too adventurous but enhanced my enjoyment of this great music. Submitted by Woody (NSW, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Brilliant Altenately brooding and funny but always heartfelt, this will go on to be a classic. 'Seven Days', 'Shape of My Heart'. Watch out. Submitted by wicked_beatz (Calcutta) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
