Sting's double-length follow-up to his solo debut DREAMS OF THE BLUE TURTLE is very much in the same sophisticated, adult pop vein, although darker and less jazzy (notwithstanding a collaboration with Miles Davis's arranger Gil Evans on a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing"). The songs are a generally varied lot, ranging from a tribute to victims of repression in Argentina ("They Dance Alone") to a tongue-in-cheek, sort-of-reggae tribute to famous eccentric Quentin Crisp ("An Englishman in New York"). The sort-of-funk "We'll Be Together"(originally written for a Japanese beer commercial) is the most upbeat and pop-ish thing here, and was deservedly a hit single, although Sting now disdains it.
This DVD Audio features a special re-mix into 5.1 Digital Surround Sound for release in the DTS 5.1 Music Disc format and includes all of the songs in the CD.
Recorded at Air Studios, Montserrat. Includes liner notes by Sting.

Probably the most critically revered band of the 70s, Steely Dan's brand of slick pop with a dose of jazz/funk left a meagre but vital catalogue to cling on to. This was their last gasp at the onset of the 80s. Perhaps they were aware of the fact that they were too 70s for the 80s. This was their least accessible and most mature album (no criticism is intended), as the content washes over the listener like a warm shower. 'Hey Nineteen' is the hit single from this set, a radio-friendly nostalgic look at 1967, impeccable in production and with evocative lyrics. Lots of echoey Fender Rhodes and sensitive brass.

BRAND NEW DAY continues Sting's sophisticated approach toward pop music as he once again collaborates with ace musicians on material that knows no cultural or stylistic boundaries. Not surprisingly, the tantric guru chooses love as the theme for this eclectic collection of songs.
Sting's cross-cultural forays range from a collaboration with Algerian singing sensation Cheb Mami on the Ofra Haza-meets-William Orbit "Desert Rose" to the bossa nova-influenced "Big ...

By 1975, Eric Clapton was coming off the smash success of 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD. If his last album was a cathartic release after coming out of a battle with drug addiction, then THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD was the first record where Clapton could catch his breath. Having become enamored with reggae after riding Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff" to the top of the charts around the world, E.C. chose to record in Kingston, Jamaica. Although recordings of Clapton with Peter Tosh first surfaced over a decade later on the CROSSROADS box set, Slowhand successfully ...
