As any quick perusal of old Top 40 rock & roll station playlists will attest, singles were where the shakin' action was, as rock & roll albums were scarce as hen's teeth back in those pre-Beatle days. But when the record companies decided to issue one, it was usually an artifact of high rockin' value and some major influence. Naysayers to the contrary, this debut album by the Northwest's first great rock & roll combo is just such an artifact. The Wailers dispensed crude, greasy, largely instrumental rock & roll music for those who came to shake it up and shake it down, and it's all on fine, rhythmic, open display here. This album is amazing in its own simplistic, nuthin'-special way, its crudity almost palpable. There's only one vocal aboard, Kent Morrill's "Dirty Robber," later covered and torched by the Sonics. Everything else is built on the riff-sturdy bones of their biggest hit, "Tall Cool One." With two guitars, piano, sax, and drums -- no bass player anywhere on here, another crudeness indicator of the times and locale it was recorded in -- all blasting away like they're working a VFW Hall dance, hoof shakers like "Wailin'," "Shanghaied," "Beat Guitar" (featured in the soundtrack of the misguided Jerry Lee Lewis bioflick ...

The new release By New Jersey Based Paul Gargiulo Band "Life Pouring Through" 10 new original tracks from Boogie Blues to Funkabilly Swing. The first track "She Be My Queen" a driven song with chicken, picken guitar solo in the styles of Jerry Reed, Gatton, and Beck. Hammond B3 played by "John Ginty" formally of the Robert Randolph and the family band John appears on 4 tracks. This CD is filled with energy, songs like Red White and Blues a Western Blues swing dedicated to our Country with a pedal steel chord solo break. Grooving bass and drums in "Lone Traveler"with more of a jazz influenced solo very cool, a funky tune talks about Paul's trip to Memphis where heplays and sings to make a dime to get back home.The slow groove'n blues "It's Time For Me To Go" powerful lyrics is a personal song with a lot of gut's. Excellent vocal and very powerfull ,the ending is some intense guitar playing very tasty with lot's of feeling. Horns are on two tracks by "Dave Mullen" superb job! Listen to the last track "I See Home Real Soon" very intimate jazzy song with some interesting chordal harmony going on with sensual vocals influenced by Ray Charles. Two great Instrumentals on the CD "Sunset Sunrise" with hint's of Buchanan and Beck also "Swing From Saturn" is out there, think Django, Martino with a Gargiulo twist take a listen to the whole song there is some interplay between instruments that is extreamly wild. Original songs catchy lyrics and vocals, a very tight unit. Well there is to much to say as the Paul Gargiulo Band has been interviewed and performed on Jersey 12 and NY 12 news. Past Blues review Magazine say's vocal Delivery pure soul with some over the top guitar playing. I think you'll really love it if your a blues, swing, funkabilly, jazzy rock lover . Check out "Vacation Getaway" a bottle neck slide blues groove that really takes you off! The Paul Gargiulo Band is creating a buzz with there live shows soon to be noticed by everyone.
