(6 Customer Reviews)
Reissue of their first album to be released on EMI's Harvest Record label. It came out during the glam rock period of 1974, and has often been compared to Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album, in particular with ballads such as Adventures In A Yorkshire ... Full DescriptionLandscape, with lyrics referencing Bill Nelson's locality of Wakefield. The album shows that Nelson was still uncertain of the route that Be Bop Deluxe would take and so offers up an eclectic mix of sometimes jazzy and sometimes metal songs. Some of the album has co-production credited to John Leckie, who was at this time working as an Assistant Engineer at Abbey Road and whom Nelson had befriended during the long recording sessions
Includes three bonus tracks.
Be-Bop Deluxe: William Nelson (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, piano); Robert Bryan (vocals, bass guitar); Ian Parkin (guitar, acoustic guitar, organ); Nicholas Chatterton-Drew (drums, percussion).

Be-Bop Deluxe Axe Victim Songs Axe Victim Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Bill Nelson's glam rock at its finest! Worth the wait! This is one of the best rock albums from the late 70's. This was probably glam rock's 1st album before anyone knew what it was. Bill Nelson is great on the guitar and his vocals blend in nicely with the music. You'll be rockin' when you listen to "No Trains to Heaven". It's awesome that this was finally re-mastered and released. Turn it up!!!!! Submitted by brionnelsen (Murrieta, CA USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Deluxe Deluxe This first offering from guitar wizzard Bill Nelson is hauntingly good! As fresh now as it was twenty plus years ago, Nelson's bluesy rock guitar and bizarre turn of phrase makes this worth the expense. The real plus here tho' is the additional live takes of "Piece of Mine" and especially "Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape" (included as bonus tracks). The original album artwork is worth having as a collector too! Axe Victim hardly qualifies as the best Nelson had to offer (check out other Be Bop Deluxe titles, "Modern Music and "Starburst Finish"), it holds a special place in my musical memory! Deluxe indeed! not the Hoople Like another reviewer, this album holds a special place in my heart too. I rushed straight out and got it once I heard Jet Silver and Jets at Dawn on the UK Alan Freeman show way back in '74.
Yes, there was some glam and Bowie influence here in the first album...what with the nod to the Spiders from Mars in the title...Dolls of Venus, which sounded like the intro to 'All the Young Dudes'. Well, Dudes was written by Bowie, not the Hoople. I never considered Be Bop to be anything like Mott.
But it was Bill's impossibly fluid guitar that was the big draw for me; the solo in Yorkshire Landscape blew me away...even though the weird (at the time) Darkness and Night Creatures were brilliant whilst featuring no electric guitar at all.
Later albums might have spawned some great tracks, were better received and more commercially successful, but this quirky little number is where it all started for me and has no equal for that point alone. Submitted by kammy (derby, uk) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
forgotten glam Definitely influenced by Bowie - the music, the lyrics and the vocals....and Mott the Hoople (check out the intro to "Jet Silver" - do I hear "All the Young Dudes"?!). But who cares? It's all the better for it. This is a fun album. Not nearly as slick as Be Bop Deluxe's later stuff, but just as catchy. If you're looking for a Mick Ronson copy, you're you'll be dissapointed. Bill Nelson is not a sloppy rocker - and even here, his leads tend to go on and on - but there's of little jazz/prog influences that (in my opinion) plague the other LPs. They are rarely mentioned in the same breath as glam rock and never seem to appear on glam compilations - but if glam's your thing, you could do worse than Axe Victim.

Axe Victim album
$11.19 Considered by many to be Be-Bop Deluxe's finest album, SUNBURST FINISH (1976) finds the British art-rock band filling out its sound with the addition of keyboardist Andrew Clark. While Clark brings new sonic textures to the table, the focus of the ensemble's music remains, as always, on frontman/songwriter ...

Axe Victim music CDs
$10.95 1976's MODERN MUSIC was Be Bop Deluxe's fourth album, and--in many ways--the band's most refined and sophisticated. The compositional ambition and stylistic flourishes of glam rock still played heavily into the band's sound, recalling David Bowie and early Roxy Music. But guitarist/singer/songwriter/frontman Bill Nelson's ability to balance multi-part songs and complex arrangements with pop hooks is realized to excellent effect here. "Kiss of Light," for example, though dominated by a shape-shifting sensibility and Nelson's soaring, multi-tracked electrics, comes back again and again to its memorable, repeating chorus.
Nelson also has a penchant for dramatic, fantasy-tinged ballads ("The Bird Charmers Destiny," for example, contains ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Axe Victim songs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness ...
| | Be-Bop Deluxe Live! In The Air Age CD (1977) Bonus Tracks
Axe Victim album
$10.95 Recorded in 1977, LIVE! IN THE AIR AGE draws most of its set list from the previous year's SUNBURST FINISH. It's clear that Be-Bop Deluxe is invigorated by the concert setting, charging through vibrant renditions of its songs and providing far more instrumental muscle and improvisation than on the studio versions. While the British prog-rock band offers up an energetic version of its single "Ships in the Night," it truly shines when allowing frontman/guitarist Bill Nelson and keyboardist Andrew Clark to stretch out, most notably on the chiming "Life in the Air Age" and the soaring "Blazing Apostles." One of those rare live albums that stands on its own merits, LIVE! IN THE AIR AGE is the sound of an inventive ensemble in top form.
Following a long American tour, the band decided to record some of their UK concerts so took a Recording studio on the road and ended up ...
| | Electric Light Orchestra On The Third Day CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Expanded Edition
Axe Victim CD music
$9.29 In some ways, 1973's ON THE THIRD DAY is the first "true" ELO album. Though co-founder Roy Wood had left the band to form the more experimental Wizzard after the first album, his influence was still all over 1972's ELO II, especially on the orchestrated cover of Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven." ON THE THIRD DAY, however, is pure Jeff Lynne, the first album completely devoted to his soon-to-be ...
