(1 Customer Review)
A misstep. the Bee Gees seem to have felt that their comeback completed by the Top Ten success of "One." It was time to go really contemporary and take on, oh, say, Prince, on High Civilization. Wrong. The techno-rock sounds silly with those near-Chipmunks harmonies, and it's all overdone. You can't really blame a band that has had recurring success by faithfully following contemporary pop trends for trying it, but you can blame them for failing. ~ William Ruhlmann

High Civilization album
$10.49 By 1982, Henry Paul was completely devoid of musical direction, let alone inspiration. After issuing a truly fine album in Anytime a year before, Paul decided on yet another musical change in direction. On his eponymously titled final album for Atlantic before re-forming the Outlaws, Paul took the hard boogie stance of Feel the Heat and married it to pop hooks ŕ la Boston, Loverboy, and Styx, making for a truly disastrous finale. The shrill edges in the vocals seem to be trying to get something out of Bruce Springsteen's mileage ...

High Civilization music CDs
$12.69 Is there a difference between self-confidence and self-delusion? Is it easier to deceive others once you’ve deceived yourself? Has the communication age made it easier to miscommunicate? If you only live once, why not raise your voice and shout out for all your worth? With You Will Be Heard!, Northern California trio Bear Hunter address these questions, and ask only that you own your answers. Bear Hunter’s debut album You Will Be Heard! does not feature members of The Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene. Nor was it produced by Jim O’Rourke, with engineering by Steve Albini. No, sorry, none of that. Instead, this album is what happens when you unleash a trio of music geeks in a basement equipped with vintage gear, Pro Tools, a slew of random instruments (vibraphone, accordion, trombone, marimba, bells, whistles, old ...
| | Blues Addicts CD (2008) With Book; Reissue
High Civilization songs
$15.39 The sole album released by a journeyman blues-rock band from Denmark in 1970, Blues Addicts is one of those records that gets its reputation for being so obscure rather than being a lost classic, frankly speaking. But as with everything, there's always a context for some sort of reissue somewhere, and its revival on the Shadoks ...

High Civilization album
$8.49 Here are some of reviews of the Broke, Lonely and Guilty EP ...Blues Matters! magazine - Issue 49 -July 2009Lack of money, being alone and guilty of committing a crime - enough to give anyone the deep blues, and on this seventeen-and-a-half minute EP, that is just what Glasgow, Scotland based alt.blues and roots singer and guitarist Craig purveys. The five songs are generally down-tempo items, and titles such as 'Everybody's Got To Cheat And Lie Sometimes' and 'He Loved Her And She Sent Him To Hell' are indicative of darker sentiments, with world-weary vocals, and a bottleneck guitar style that draws on the greats, such as Son House, Muddy Waters, Blind Willie Johnson, and others (that last-named title is almost jaunty by comparison with the other ...
