Spicks & Specks 26 Songs album
$12.19 The Bee Gees made a commercial comeback outside the U.S. with 1987's E.S.P. and its single, "You Win Again." One, on the other hand, had an improved chart showing in the U.S., while sales fell off elsewhere. The Bee Gees are remarkable pop craftsmen -- "It's My Neighborhood" is a canny, if ...

Spicks & Specks 26 Songs album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures album these two recorded at the Fillmore West know how brilliant they could be on stage, and here's another gem, recorded at the Fillmore East this time and featuring 'One Way Out,' 'It's My Own Fault' (with Bloomfield trading ...
| | Pat Metheny Orchestrion CD (2010)
Spicks & Specks 26 Songs CD music
$15.39 Pat Metheny's Orchestrion refers to a 19th century hybrid musical instrument of the same name that contained (usually) a wind orchestra, various percussion instruments, and sometimes a piano played by a pinned cylinder or a music roll -- like a player piano. Metheny designed and plays one here thanks to a commissioned group of inventors, advanced solenoid switch technology, and pneumatics. This invention includes pianos, marimbas, bells, basses, "guitarbots," ...

Spicks & Specks 26 Songs songs
$12.49 Recorded in Los Angeles, California on June 22-23, 1961. Includes orginal liner notes by Benny Green and and reissue liner notes by Will Friedwald.
Many of the Ella Fitzgerald CDs in print are compilations and recently discovered live recordings, which makes this reissue with bonus tracks of a 1961 album that much more interesting. Produced by Norman Granz, this is a small-combo session with occasional and unobtrusive strings. Though Fitzgerald ...

| | Marc Brenken - Christian Kappe Quartet Eight Short Stories CD (2009) (Import)
Spicks & Specks 26 Songs CD music
$17.09 As a duo it began - meanwhile Christian Kappe (tp) and Marc Brenken (p) have taken in two of North Rhine Westphalia's top jazz musicians for their quartet: Alex Morsey, with his amazing inventiveness, masterly technique and humorous scat solos is one of the most requested bass players in Germany, and Marcus Rieck a sensitive and hard-swinging drummer with a lot of experience. The four of them fathom particularly original compositions ranging from lyrical ballads over pointed short stories to intoxicating grooves, always putting themselves on the line and enjoying extensive improvisations. An exciting and varied concert experience. Christian Kappe (trumpet, flugelhorn) is a steady member of the band of German organist Barbara Dennerlein and Dutch pianist Jasper van't Hof's current project „Hot Lips". After his studies in the Netherlands and at Berklee College in Boston he won amongst others the prize of the best soloist at the Getxo Jazz Festival (Spain) in 1999. He also toured with the Florian Zenker Christian Kappe quartet and the German Youth Jazz Orchestra in Europe, Africa, North and South America.Since his studies at the Folkwang Acadamy of Music in Essen Marc Brenken (piano, composition) is consistenty developing his own musical language. 1999 he was involved in the score of the successfull movie "Sonnenallee".
