| | M People Fresco CD - Import M People Discography of CDs
This is a 1999 reissue of the British dance music group's 1997 LP.
M People spent a considerable amount of time on Fresco, the group's fourth album, crafting a record that would break them out of the Europop straitjacket and establish them as an international dance-pop act. In other words, Fresco is less a club album than it is a radio record, filled with carefully constructed songs with strong rhythms, sturdy hooks, and pop-soul melodies. Too bad that much of the record simply isn't as memorable. Sure, there are several potential singles with naggingly catchy melodies and the entire production is appealingly glossy and accessible, but the songs simply aren't there and neither is the charming, unashamed brashness of their early work. A few songs -- the garage techno of "Angel St.," the catchy house of "Fantasy Island" and the sweeping orchestrated pop of "Just for You" -- make the album worthwhile, but on the whole Fresco is a distressing step backward for a group that had yet to make a false move. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Fresco CD music
$6.09 Given the progressive trajectory of Miles Davis's career, and his genre-smashing tendencies, it's likely that if Miles Davis were alive today he'd be incorporating electronica and hip-hop into his jazz palette. The remix project EVOLUTION OF THE GROOVE imagines Miles in a contemporary context, taking classic Miles tracks and treating them with new production, beats, and overdubs from guest musicians including Nas, Carlos Santana, and others.

$9.59 Coming off the enormous success of their double album SPEARBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW, Outkast continue to prove themselves to be one of the most unusual acts in hip-hop with IDLEWILD, the album companion to the movie-musical of the same name. On this, their seventh full-length release, Andre 3000 and Big Boi break new ground, expanding their repertoire of musical experimentation by putting together 25 unconventional hip-hop tracks with twists of soul, gospel, and ragtime in line with the 1930s era represented in the film.

$14.19 Pupkulies & Rebecca's second full album together follows nicely in the vein of the first, a pleasantly understated version of current pop trends that reacts to the state of the art rather than trying to ignore it -- no small thing in an era of groups endlessly looking backward rather than around them. Fresco music CDs
$9.35 Everybody's a Pinata was El Gato's first CD EP Release. It's a brilliant recording and a strong debut. A product of the revered underground music scene in Denton, Texas, El Gato continues to challenge itself and listeners with their new album, "Surrender!" Recorded at Satellite Park Studios in Malibu with David McConnell (Elliott Smith, Wilco) and in Dallas with Stuart Sikes (Cat Power, Modest Mouse, The Walkmen), Mark Pirro (The Polyphonic Spree) and Sir Williams Paul, "Surrender!" captures the group sounding more focused and confident than ever. After the success of 2002's critically acclaimed "We're Birds", the band seemed to be well on its way to bigger and better things. Producer David McConnell had seen El Gato perform, and he invited the band to come record at his home studio in Malibu where he had been recording many of the songs that appeared later on Elliott Smith's "From a Basement on the Hill." However, when bassist Evan Hisey left the group to play full time with The Polyphonic Spree, the future seemed uncertain. El Gato persevered recruiting long-time friend Kirk Dixon to play bass, and headed to Malibu to record six songs. Shortly thereafter lead songwriter and vocalist John Vineyard became restless and decided to pack up and move to San Diego. "I just couldn't keep sitting in the same room writing songs -- I felt like if I was going to develop as a writer and artist I had to grow as a person," says ...
| | Ligeia Bad News CD (2008)
Fresco songs
$11.59 Before you macho meatheads out there start hating on Ligeia for no other reason than their girlishly emo-flavored moniker, or the pin-up cover girl gracing their sophomore album, Bad News, keep in mind that the Massachusetts quartet are actually named after a pretty gnarly short story written by 19th century horror master Edgar Allan Poe, and that tough guy thrashers Annihilator also thought it was scary enough to write a song about. Now that everyone's settled down, let's talk calmly about Ligeia -- the band -- and said album, Bad News, which consists of 11 melodic hardcore ditties informed, not by gothic storytelling (look to labelmates, the Banner, for that), but by their very real, everyday experiences (even the stupid ones). Sounds boring, we know, but in light of all the hysterics and hyperbole inherent ...
