| Underneath The Radar Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) Desert Island Disc A freind gave me a copy on tape when it first came out and I was floored by the band's ability to make every song worth listening to again and again. The fact that the band has evolved and still makes me feel the same way with their musics direction makes them one of my all time favorites. And this album will always be my favorite. Thank God they moved on from this We all evolve form our roots, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. Underworld's evolution from this point was definitely for the better. It is hard to believe that the sublime layered rhythms of Beaucoup Fish started in this mediocre primordial slime. Submitted by Roj (Ottawa, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Underneath The Radar album
$13.95 DIG YOUR OWN HOLE was nominated for 1998 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Alternative Music Performance. "Block Rockin' Beats" won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Chemical Brothers Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands waste no time on their nuclear-weapon of a second album proving they are masters of the techno groove. DIG YOUR OWN HOLE opens with a sampled shout-out by old-school gangsta Schoolly D, a syncopated bass line, and a drum loop that gives credence to the song's title, "Block Rockin' Beats." This smorgasbord of sounds--a hallucinatory interweaving of hip-hop, techno, trance and the Chemicals' trademark synthesized guitar loop--builds up and cold-rocks the first five minutes of the record like a tsunami crashing ashore. Unlike most productions in the electronic/dance-music universe, the music on DIG YOUR OWN HOLE also has the weight of great rock and roll. That makes DIG YOUR OWN HOLE the personification of modern pop music at its chaotic best, and a funky agent of change.
DIG YOUR OWN HOLE is built on a repetition of beats, samples and skewered sounds, but that doesn't mean it's a repetitive album. Between bass-heavy house tunes like "It Doesn't Matter" and "Elektro Bank," the Chemicals show where their pop-oriented ...
| | Oval Systemisch CD (1996)
Underneath The Radar CD music
$12.95 1993's formative WOHNTON combined Oval's glitchy constructions with occasional vocals and tentatively song-like arrangements. SYSTEMISCH wisely abandons such tactics for 11 tracks of fragmentary ambience. The results range from the lulling and surprisingly pretty ("Textuell," "Oval Office," "Mediation," "Gabba Nation") to the brittle and juddering ("Schoner Wissen," "Tonregie") and ...

| | Plaid Not For Threes CD (1998)
Underneath The Radar songs
$13.09 As 2/3 of the magnificent Black Dog Productions, Ed Handley and Andy Turner heralded an age of lushly melodic electronic songcraft. The acrimonious fission of BDP produced Plaid and revived the dashed hopes of the duo's earlier brilliance. But, with only one (legendarily rare) album, a fistful of aliases and quiet production assignments, and a few singles in recent years, Plaid had the appearance of an elaborate tease.
If the gorgeous NOT FOR THREES is any indication, Plaid just didn't want to rush perfection. The album seems to be directed at those who would dismiss electronica as soulless music made "for machines, by machines." Plaid's ...

| | Leverett, Anwyan & George Hearth Light CD (2007)
Underneath The Radar songs
$12.15 Hearth LightWell, now that you are feeling all relaxed and warm and fuzzy from listening to Altar Wind, Shadow Wood and Skye Boat, it's time to move things in a perky-er direction. Hearth Light, is the newest release by George & Anwyn Leverett. By request this one is a little more up-beat. Celtic harp, wire harp, hammered dulcimer, penny whistle, guitar, hurdy gurdy, recorders and bowed psaltery are the featured instruments. It captures the romance of a simpler time, of hearth and home, spinning and weaving, rosy apples and ripe corn, as lazy as a stroll down a warm Irish country lane and as cheery as a dancing candle flame. Refreshingly interesting arrangements of Irish and Scottish traditional jigs and reels with several originals, such as "Busy Threads", and "La Priel's Pavane" using recorders, harp, wire harp and bhrodon these two have a medieval flavor. The three vocals are on the subject of spinning and weaving, one of Anwyn's passions. "Fine Linen for You" is the whimsical day dream of a young bride who will spinand weave fine linen for her new husband, if she ever gets the equipment! "Sweet Becky at the Loom" is a nostalgic and romantic view of a young maiden expertly performing herweaving duties, appreciated by an admiring young man. "The Three Fates" is an original, with words by Anwyn and music by George. While on a trip to Wales, Anwyn wasmoved by statues of the Three Fates (from Greek mythology) in a castle. They were spinning, measuring and cutting the thread of men's life. "It's a dark mysterious imagethat I have been carrying around with me for 21 years!" To leave you feeling contented, the CD leaves with two mellow songs, "Both Sides the Tweed" (an instrumentalrendition of the moving song lamenting the conflict between England and Scotland during the Jacobite revolution & lastly The Fairy Queen--- aahhh.BIOGeorge & Anwyn LeverettAncient, Traditional & Contemporary Celtic Music2007 marks the 15th anniversary of the acclaimed Celtic music duo, George & Anwyn Leverett. They have played such diverse venues as Celtic and Blue Grass festivals, Nevada casinos, pubs, fairs, school assemblies and sold-out concerts. They performed the "Green Show" of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival for seven years, before moving to Oregon. They have a passion for Irish and Scottish music that proclaims itself with each performance. Ancient, traditional and contemporary Celtic music comes to life with their wide variety of old world instruments. Anwyn and George play Irish fiddle, cittern, guitar, mandolin, hurdy-gurdy, zither, hammer dulcimer, bowed psaltery, penny whistle & recorder but George's main instrument is the ...
