Originally released in 1967, SCOTT is the debut record by rock & roll musician, Scott Walker.
Following the dissolution of the Walker Brothers in 1967, Scott Walker (born Noel Scott Engel) embarked on an adventurous solo career, steering the dramatic pop sensibility of his former group into darker, stranger waters. On this debut, the American-born/British-based crooner assertively stakes out his territory as one of the preeminent interpreters of Jacques Brel (as translated by Mort Shuman) by offering up three of the often macabre French songwriter's compositions--the galloping "Mathilde," the gloriously melancholy "My Death," and the gloomy "Amsterdam."
Even more notable, however, are Walker's original numbers, particularly "Montague Terrace (In Blue)" and "Such a Small Love," which pull listeners in with delicate intros, only to dive headlong into bombastic orchestral passages that, remarkably, are kept in check by Walker's bold baritone voice and emotive lyrics. Although the singer's enigmatic aesthetic isn't for everyone, those who fall under his spell are strongly affected, as revealed in the work of admiring artists such as David Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Nick Cave, and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker. While BOY CHILD is the best introduction to the fascinating performer, this is the ideal point of departure for delving further into Walker's early--and most influential--material.
24bit HDCD digitally remastered edition of Walker's first solo album, originally released in September 1967, reaching a peak of #3 on the UK pop charts. Three of the songs were written by Walker himself along with material from Jacques Brel, Dory Previn, Tim Hardin, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill and others. This edition includes additional photos supplied by the Antar Archive. The disc itself is a picture disc, replicating the look of a vinyl album.

Scott album
$15.49 Perhaps not even Scott Walker truly understands this record, which isn't to say that it it's not one of the most ambitious and ultimately rewarding musical experiences of the last few years; it's just that exactly what Walker was thinking when he made TILT remains a mystery to this day. Even Brian Eno, a huge Walker fan and no stranger to the avant-garde, apparently had to walk away from the sessions early on in the recording.
Longtime Scott Walker fans shouldn't expect either the Brechtian song-stories of his solo material, or his Spector-influenced work with The Walker Brothers. TILT is the sound of a man swallowed whole by the music industry. Unidentifiable noises pop in and out of the mix as Walker's voice, a beautiful baritone almost unequaled in pop, floats ethereally around, at times seemingly diving deep into an undersea echo chamber. The lyrics are more haiku than iambic pentameter and those expecting a chorus (much less a verse), will be severely disappointed. Whatever TILT is, it's unlike anything you have ever heard.

| | Scott Walker Climate Of Hunter CD (1984)
Scott CD music
$12.79 1984's Climate Of Hunter was Scott Walker's only album of the decade and his only for Virgin Records. It drew critical raves for its minimalist, trancelike ambience that showed him keeping abreast of cutting edge 80's rock trends. Digitally remastered for the first time and includes sleeve notes by Bob Stanley of Saint Etienne. Virgin. 2005.
| | Scott Walker Scott 2 CD (1968)
Scott music CDs
$10.29 This remastered reissue of eccentric singer Scott Walker's 1968 release SCOTT WALKER features "Jackie," "Best Of Both Worlds," and "Plastic Palace People."
SCOTT 2 represents the axis of the singer's career. Somehow Scott Walker (by now writing under his given name, Engel) carved himself a commercial as well as critical success just as the pop star's existential angst assumed the upper hand. As with predecessor SCOTT (1), the fascination with Jacques Brel is evident in the inclusion of three of the Belgian's songs. "Next" is as shockingly graphic as "The Girls and the Dogs" is comic, but most instantly identifiable is "Jacky." This UK-banned hit single and leadoff track heralds the record's arrival at bawdy, breakneck speed.
The Brel influence smothers one of SCOTT 2's four Engel originals, "The Girls from the Streets." For all its grandeur, the song feels like homage. No such accusations can be leveled at "Plastic Palace People" or "The Amorous Humphrey Plugg," where Scott's writing begins to flower, his voice assuming a towering poise and distinction. The whole of SCOTT 2 is lent weight by the wildly inventive arrangements of Wally Stott, Peter Knight, and Reg Guest. One or two MOR covers aside, the combination of vocals and orchestration is magically evocative.

| | Scott Walker Scott 4 CD (1969) Remastered
Scott songs
$10.29 This Scott Walker release from 1969 includes the songs "Seventh Seal," "World's Strongest Man," and "Rhymes of Goodbye," with Walker's inimitable singing style front and center throughout.
Released in 1969, SCOTT 4 caps off a remarkable quartet of records (all issued in the span of less than three years), and arguably stands as Scott Walker's most accomplished album. On this 10-track set, the British-based singer-songwriter unveiled his first collection of entirely original numbers, marking a notable departure from the earlier precedent of having three Jacques Brel tunes per studio outing. Here Walker's utterly distinctive chamber-pop aesthetic appears in more restrained and refined form, as revealed on the urgent-yet-graceful "The Seventh Seal" (based on the revered Ingmar Bergman film of the same name) and the gentle, meditative "Boy Child." Those looking for the pomp-and-circumstance of earlier Walker material will find hints of it on "The Old Man's Back Again (Dedicated to the Neo-Stalinist Regime)," but the predominant mood of SCOTT 4 is set by lush and layered, though relatively subtle, string arrangements that perfectly complement his deep, expressive voice. While Walker would issue other important and intriguing recordings in the decades that followed, this album marks the end of his highly influential late-'60s heyday.

| | Scott Walker Scott 3 CD (1969) Remastered
Scott album
$10.79 Ethereal, exceptional, beautifully orchestrated pop music from one of the late 20th century's most idiosyncratic artists, SCOTT 3 contains a series of lush, mesmerizing songs that typify the free-spirited, experimental late 1960s. Scott Walker also gives free rein to his more epic impulses on songs like the careening "We Came Through," a prime example of the kind of marvelously over-the-top pieces that made him a byword for eccentricity, while "30th Century Man" is almost the exact opposite, featuring only the mellow-voiced singer and an acoustic guitar. There's also an alternately tense and serene version of "If You Go Away" that marks the artist as one of Jacques Brel's finest English interpreters.
24bit HDCD digitally remastered edition of Walker's third solo album, originally released in April 1969, reaching a peak of #3 on the UK pop charts. This edition includes additional photos supplied by the Antar Archive. The disc itself is a picture disc, replicating the look of a vinyl album.

| | Drift CD (2006)
Scott CD music
$13.15 An utterly unique accomplishment, Scott Walker's THE DRIFT is the enigmatic British-based singer-songwriter's first official album since 1995's challenging TILT. Those looking for the Brechtian drama and crooner stylings of Walker's lauded late-'60s work will happily find them on these 10 haunting tracks, albeit in altered forms that often bypass melody to create what sometimes recalls a chilling sonic abstraction of Edgar Allan Poe's writings.
While two extended tracks, "Clara" and "Cue," wander down some frightening paths (occasionally calling to mind Kronos Quartet's BLACK ANGELS), and make up a considerable amount of THE DRIFT, the record also includes slightly less daunting pieces such as "Cossacks Are," which builds to propulsive rhythmic passages, and "Jesse," a brooding song seemingly rising up from some forsaken underground chamber. Far from accessible, yet mesmerizing in its bleak minimalist vision, THE DRIFT once again reinforces Walker's reputation as a fascinating and thoroughly unconventional artist.

| | Ice-T O.G. Original Gangster CD (1991) Original Gangster
Scott music CDs
$9.39 Often hailed as Ice-T's most ambitious and fully realized album, O.G. ORIGINAL GANGSTER is more sophisticated than the hustler-centered RHYME PAYS, yet less weighted by ideology than THE ICEBERG/FREEDOM OF SPEECH?JUST WATCH WHAT YOU SAY. The record is also more musically adventurous than the spare ICEBERG; help from numerous producers gives 1991's O.G. a dense, contemporary feel, with a sound that recalls the Bomb Squad's production for Public Enemy. From laid-back funk (the title track) to bone-crushing beats ("Midnight"), O.G. runs the gamut in mood and style.
Ice-T synthesizes his different incarnations into one persona here. Remaining true to his South Central, Los Angeles roots, Ice raps about the hardships of ghetto life, but is not beyond detailing his high-rolling, wealthy lifestyle. At his best, Ice-T melds these together in a self-reflexive way, as on "New Jack Hustler" (the theme song to the film NEW JACK CITY, which features Ice-T in a key role), one of O.G.'s standout tracks. There are also meditations on race ("Straight Up Nigga") and philosophically minded tunes ("Mind Over Matter"). Most notably, the song "Body Count" introduced Ice's metal band of the same name, proving beyond a doubt that O.G. is no average hip-hop album.
Recorded at Syndicate Studios West, Widetracks, Dodge City and Fox Run Studios, Los Angeles, California.
Additional producers: Bilal Bashir, Afrika Islam, Ice-T, DJ Aladdin.

| | Flairs Shut Up And Drive CD (2006)
Scott music CDs
$8.06 The Flairs, who hail from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, are a standard guitar/bass/drums pop-punk quartet that writes and performs quick-tempo, guitar-driven rock tunes. In their publicity materials, they make a point of citing their affection for the Ramones, but on their debut full-length, Shut Up and Drive, they cover Skid Row's "18 & Life," which is perhaps more indicative of their sound. Of course, '70s punk rock and '80s hair metal were never really that far apart musically; it was more a matter of attitude (and wardrobe). Singer Dawn Mandarino presents lyrics that focus primarily on romantic scorn, which fits with the aggressive music. But she never loses her sense of melody, and the music, while propulsive, never gets really wild. That's the mark of pop-punk, and the Flairs do it quite well. ~ William Ruhlmann
The Flairs are a 21st century band ready to take the world by storm with their catchy, hook-laden rock songs harkening back to the days of '80's hard rock and punk, seasoned with a whole-lotta attitude! Vancouver based band, The Flairs, created quite the buzz with their 2004 debut EP, described as being a magical blend of youthful spirit and undeniable talent by a group determined to unleash their vision on an unsuspecting public. Those starving for real living, breathing punk-coloured hard rock with smart pop sensibilities will eat this up for any meal. The Flairs are on a kick ass mission to rock out even harder with their new full length CD, 'Shut Up and Drive.' The first single and video was a spin on Skid Row's "18 & Life", which received airplay on rock radio stations across North America as well as rotation on Much Music. Shortly after this, The Flairs embarked on an intense 14 week summer tour, which took them across Canada, the US, and impressively, Indonesia! The powerful presence of The Flairs once again created a big enough buzz on MTV Asia, Indonesiar TV and the Soundrenaline Festivals, where upwards of a whopping 90,000 people attended. To date, The Flairs have released 4 other successful videos from the cd 'Shut up and Drive' including 'Sorry For Lovin' You', 'Falling Into Pieces', 'Ready to Roll', and most recently, 'Stinger'. After virtually growing up in their previous pop/punk band Tuuli, and opening for bands such as The Donnas, Disturbed and rock legends Cheap Trick, Dawn Mandarino (vocals and guitar) and Jen Foster (drums and vocals) decided it was time to form their own band. The Flairs story began in the summer of 2002 when Dawn and Jen met Bif Naked's guitar slinger, Gillian Hanna (lead guitar and vocals) as they played North American outdoor festivals and concerts. All three found common ground, added Gillian's brother Ryan Hanna (bass), and the band was officially born. The Flairs attribute their unique sound to their individual influences. Dawn's love for bands like the Ramones and Garbage, Jen's ska-influenced punk in the vein of the Dance Hall Crashers, and the Hanna's passion for heavy guitar rock groups like Metallica, Guns 'N Roses, Stone Temple Pilots and Led Zeppelin. In the mix they have created a sound The Flairs can truly hail as their own. The new album is fast, loud, and extremely addictive, 'Shut Up and Drive' literally kicks this band up a notch into overdrive and gives us a taste of what The Flairs music is really about. Having created such a raw, vibrant buzz across Canada, The Flairs constant touring regimen has included a successful run with rock legend David Lee Roth, highly praised performances at three consecutive Vancouver's New Music West festival, and sold out shows at Toronto's NXNE and Canadian Music Week. They have also showcased at New York City's esteemed punk rock venues, Los Angeles' International Pop Overthrow Festival and headlined the ROCKRGRL Music Conference in Seattle. Most recently, The Flairs have just returned from their 1st, and very successful 2 week European tour in April 2008. This took the band to a new level as they traveled acro
| | Wanteds Let Go Afterglow CD (2004)
Scott songs
$9.89 "The Wanteds are perhaps the most controversial band in Portland right now...people find frontman Tommy's high-strung antics either hysterical or totally grating. At the least, he's a man who speaks his mind." -Portland Tribune"There's something inspirational about a 35-year-old artist who, after years of trying to make it as a part of various bands, walks out onto the tightrope and bares his soul with more youthful exhuberance than emo and angst-rockers half his age." -Cincinnati City Beat"It's really catchy." -Tape Op Magazine"The Wanteds are/is a one-man band from Portland, Oregon, whose guitar-driven indie-pop is augmented by laptop and synthesizer. The high-powered performance was somewhere between Cheap Trick and M83, if you can imagine that." -Seven Days Weekly (Burlington, VT)"It's gorgeous, epic, lush." -Three Imaginary Girls"The beauty of 'Let Go Afterglow' is in it's simplicity. All the tracks on the album, either purposefully bare or carefully hand crafted, have a loveable low-fi quality about them." -Omaha Pulp"Obviously, Harrington is independent; his record is emotional, playing out his feelings and moods, and connecting to people on a personal level. Combined with his uncompromising DIY spirit, which shows through his actions rather than endless preaching, Tommy has made a beautiful, personal, and thoughtful record." -Radix Magazine"Why you needed to hear it: Tommy Harrington is a one-man machine, able to turn what many define 'studio noise' into precious gems called 'songs'." -SCTAS Best of 2004"Portland's Tommy Harrington doesn't like to do anything the easy way. Instead of using Photoshop, he took more than 500 pictures to capture the eerie, shadow-strewn cover shot of his debut disc Let Go Afterglow. Rather than attaching his own name to an album that he alone wrote, performed, and recorded, he selected the misleading moniker The Wanteds. And instead of penning simple songs, Harrington composes complicated pop pieces, making massive melodies out of densely programmed electronic elements, sharp guitar tones and mild-mannered vocals. It's immediately apparent how much work went into every track, but these contagiously catchy tunes are more inviting than intimidating." -Portland Mercury
