| | O Yuki Conjugate Peyote CD O Yuki Conjugate Discography of CDs
Imagine the heat haze of a thousand deserts pressing upon you, the shared miasmic fever dream of ancient elders banging on clay pots, the expansive vistas and dangerous landscapes of long extinct topographies. These are the aural suggestions made real by O Yuki Conjugate, a British collective headed by multi-instrumentalist Andrew Hulme, who seem to know much about our ancestral past. PEYOTE remains one of the undisputed classics of fourth-world maximalism, a stunning hybrid of Jon Hassell, Beaver and Krause, and Steve Roach's similar forays.
"Snake Charm" slithers on a mass of struck objects, ghostly electronic shards, and haunted strings; "Long Pig" sounds as if it's carved from those things that go bump in the night, dancing the dance of ancestral electrons; "Still Breath" resonates with found sounds, awry percussion, and needlesharp synthesized flotsam. PEYOTE is an elegiac listening experience. O Yuki Conjugate Peyote Songs | 1. | Snake Charm |

| | Iron & Wine Woman King CD (2005) Extended Play
Peyote
$8.09 In his first few years of doing business as Iron & Wine, Floridian singer/songwriter Sam Beam seemed incapable of putting a foot wrong. His hushed, gorgeous ballads had already filled two albums and an EP before 2005's six-song WOMAN KING came along. While Beam's Nick Drake-meets-Elliott Smith whisper and striking poetic imagery remain intact on WOMAN KING, he also indulges in the expanded instrumentation and folk-blues formats hinted at on the preceding OUR ENDLESS NUMBERED DAYS. Junkyard percussion, keyboards, and guitars all vie for space with Beam's low-key croon but never overpower it. In keeping with the title, the theme of the EP seems to be various ...
| | Lynyrd Skynyrd Gods & Guns CDs (2009) Special Edition
Peyote
$20.99 What to make of GOD & GUNS, the group's new album from Roadrunner Records? It certainly sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd, maybe with a little more contemporary Nashville on board, and there's plenty of that Southern redneck rocker attitude on display. What might be missing however is a little more compassion and heart, two qualities that were the secret ingredients in the late Ronnie Van Zant's singing. Johnny sounds like him, sure, but where Ronnie came across slightly disappointed, wounded, and--God forbid--regretful underneath his swagger, Johnny comes across like an archetypal Southern redneck convinced that America is all about guns and God. The lead single from this set, "Still Unbroken," is a decent song, but that's about it, although the album has a big, full feel. There just aren't many songs here to go with that fullness (God & Guns was produced by Bob Marlette)--"Southern Ways" has a certain charm, maybe because ...
| | Train Save Me, San Francisco CD (2009)
Peyote
$9.58 San Francisco's Train hit the charts with a bang early in the 21st century with hits like "Calling All Angels" and "Drops of Jupiter." They began as a band that courted an alternative audience and quickly traded it -- without changing their sound much -- for a more adult fanbase with mixed results. SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO took four years to make -- remember there was Monahan's solo album in the interim -- and involved a slew of musicians (because only Monahan, guitarist Jimmy Stafford, and drummer Scott Underwood ...

| | Mark Knopfler Get Lucky CD (2009)
Peyote
$15.65 With the release of GET LUCKY, Mark Knopfler has made as many solo studio albums as he made group studio albums with Dire Straits, which itself may be a signal that it's time to stop comparing his two careers and simply accept them as separate entities. Of course, since Knopfler was the lead singer, chief instrumentalist, and songwriter for Dire Straits, there are obvious similarities, even if he has taken a deliberately different path as a solo artist. Basically, he's a lot quieter. "Border Reiver," the first song here, begins with a pennywhistle and a piano, then strings join in. Soon enough, Knopfler's distinctive conversational baritone begins calmly intoning lyrics, and eventually there are examples of his melodic fingerpicked guitar style on both acoustic and electric guitar. He even works up to a smoldering swamp rock shuffle, a la J.J. Cale, on "Cleaning ...

| | Buc Escape CD (2006) (Import)
Peyote
$14.29 The rhythm of modern living is merciless, oftenly uncatchable for live beings whose heartbeats reflects more peacefull lifestyle, with less dramatic business and life changes. These two rhythms, rhythm of ambition and inner rhythm, is sometimes imposible to harmonize, usually body or spirit suffers. Sometimes one has need to escape from daily jobs and obligations, and get closer to nature. Such escape could be of different kind, it could be listening to the music which differs from that in our cars, interrupted with commercials, while we are in harry to get on time to our jobs. Different from that which is bombarding us on television, day by day. Even the musicians have such wishes, from time to time, to shift from reality, from music which is making and representing them professionaly successful, but intimately dissatisfied. In such times the albums like BUČ – ESCAPE are happening, showing other side of creativity, which is melody, composition and similar stuff, usually not connected with playing bass guitar only. The music on the album is mostly instrumental, rooted in funk, groovy, with touch of ethnic and ambiental elements. All components of Buč´s music career are here, but assembled in different way.Buč ( pronounce butch ) is well known bass player and musician in his home town Zagreb, capital of Croatia. He is making for living by doing some session work in recording studios and TV stations, leading his own group The Bučersi. As steady member of various rock and funk bands, Buč participated in more then 15 released cd´s and 2 dvd´s, presenting him in typical bass player role, but capable to ...
