Erasure's second album, 1987's THE CIRCUS, is one of their most uncompromising in several ways. The duo's most unfailingly dancefloor-oriented release, much of THE CIRCUS consists of in-your-face Hi-NRG disco beats largely unvarnished by the ... Full Descriptionpop savvy of later singles like "Stop!" or "Chains of Love." Similarly, THE CIRCUS finds singer Andy Bell in complete control of Erasure's lyrics--much of 1986's WONDERLAND had been written solely by partner Vince Clarke--and the emphatically gay singer bluntly tackles major themes on songs like "It Doesn't Have To Be" and "Hideaway." A powerful, sometimes unsettling album.
An important note: Later in 1987, THE CIRCUS was radically reworked into the remixed/re-recorded THE TWO RING CIRCUS. The two albums fundamentally differ enough that Erasure fans will want both. "Free As A Bird" is the Beatles' first new recording in 25 years. Written by the late John Lennon, the song was fleshed out and recorded in 1994 by the three surviving Beatles--Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr--using Lennon's lead vocal and piano track from a demo recorded in the late 1970s.
The song was debuted on November 19, 1995 during the television broadcast of the documentary "The Beatles Anthology."
This 1994 single came the closest as anything to reunite the Beatles. Along with the title track adapted from vocal tracks John Lennon laid down in his final year, FREE AS A BIRD contains two reworkings of Beatles classics and a rare Christmas tune.
Deleted in the U.S.! The only other single besides 'Real Love' taken from the Fab Four 's 1995 collection 'Anthology' (Volume 1). It's backed with three non-album tracks, 'I Saw Her Standing There' (Studio Take Nine), 'This Boy' (Alternate Take) and 'Christmas Time Is Here Again'. This was the first 'reunion' track to feature the three remaining members voices electronically overdubbed to John Lennon's original vocals. EMI. 1995.
