I'm Adrian Van Meter. This is my hard rock / metal album from 2003, "Veteran". Mostly the songs on this one feature heavily tube-distorted dual-channel downtuned guitars with prominent bass, heavy drums and singing/screaming vocals with the occasional growl. All instruments and vocals were recorded sequentially by me.I'm proud of how this album ended up sounding. I try to copy techniques I used in mixing "Veteran" to my current projects. For example the drums weren't compressed a whole lot individually, but rather they were turned up and EQ'd carefully and the entire mix was pushed through my software's mastering works, and I really like how that turned out. The drums except for track 5 were recorded on a vintage Ludwig kit with Zildjian cymbals. I used Shure SM57s, a Shure Beta 52a and Oktava Ltd. overheads to record the kit. Then it was direct in from a cheapie Jackson bass that I thought sounded scratchy and great. A single SM57 sat in front of one speaker of my Carvin MTS3212 tube amp driven by my custom Carvin DC127 guitar, picking up each track. Finally I recorded vocals in a Blue Baby Bottle.Many of the songs were written for the album, but the disc also includes two remakes of songs I had written many years ago ("Any More" and "Wings Attached"), an old song right off of my first 8-track reel tapes ("My Life is Killing Me"), and even two songs I was thinking about not including because of their silly nature ("Porn Porn Porn" and "Ravioli of Death"). The reason I decided to include these last two songs was because I knew they'd get some some kind of attention somewhere, and sure enough I have received quite a few downloads for these two songs via CDBaby's digital distribution, likely due to their names and previews. Of course I'm grateful for any attention and appreciate the downloads.Once I had all the tracks and artwork I sent the whole deal to Oasis (oasiscd.com) for pressing (real CDs!). The art on the front of the CD was done by a friend of mine named Molly, and she used a photo she had taken of some kid whose name she couldn't seem to remember when I asked. The inside of the booklet and the back of the jewel case are both Photoshop collages by myself. The back of the booklet features a photo of my high school friend Kyle holding up a Go Iraq War sign at an anti-war protest in 2003. The CD is silk-screen printed with artwork of a statue of a soldier and has sharp black text overlaying. It's polywrapped and barcoded.
