(3 Customer Reviews)
HAVING CHURCH was Rev. James Cleveland's final recording. It includes "God Leads His Children," which features former Caravans singer Cassietta George, and "What Shall I Do," in which Rev. Cleveland prophesizes his own death.
A posthumous Grammy winner, this 1990 album by the most influential male gospel performer of the post-war era was recorded live, which is both its strength and its weakness. As expected, the performances--either by the gruff-voiced Cleveland, the Southern California Community Choir, or guest vocalists Herman Jones and Lavora Wilson (heard at their sanctified best on the two-part "Somebody's Knocking")--are electrifying. Unfortunately, they're so electrifying that the congregation's testifying occasionally drowns out the music. With that reservation, highly recommended.
Personnel includes: Rev. James Cleveland, Leslie Parham, Rev. Calvin Bernard Rhone, Cassietta George, Lavora Wilson, Wayne Anthony (vocals); Edna Tatum (spoken vocals); Kurt Carr (keyboards).

$11.18 CHRISTMAS ON MARS might be the Flaming Lips' bona fide sci-fi epic, but EMBRYONIC is the musical equivalent of the final scenes of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY: transformative chaos that results in a new start. From THE SOFT BULLETIN onward, the Lips seemed focused on tidying the loose ends of their earlier work, almost to the point of constraining themselves. Their wilder side is unleashed on Embryonic's 18 tracks, and the band sounds more off-the-cuff than it has in years -- some tracks are barely longer than snippets, others are rangy epics, and it all holds together so organically that listeners might wonder just how much these songs were edited. Musically, EMBRYONIC is the least polite the Flaming Lips have been in nearly two decades, mixing in-the-red drums, blobby, dubby bass, squelchy wah-wah guitars, and sparkling keyboards ...

$16.45 Ever growing, ever changing, ever adapting, never standing still; this is the philosphy of The Exploration Project. We are not like all those other musicians or bands. Every one of our performances have original music and we never repeat our music from one performance to another. We are totally new each time we play. With us, nothing can be taken for granted. Now with the release of this its 12 Cd and the 3rd in a trilogy of live performance Cds, The Exploration Project takes on new ground. With the addition of the poetic genius of Matt Posner and the visual landscapes of Artist in Dialogue painter Eric Henty, who has designed our cover art from one of the landscapes he did during our live performance on December 8 of 2007, The Exploration project becomes more intellectually stimulating than ever! Let's not forget our other great members; Jorge Caballero, considered to be one of the greatest virtuoso classical guitarists in all the world and the sonic genius of Jon Margulies on various electronic effects and electric guitars. Then of course there is me, Scott Rifkin; the organizing factor, conceptual artist and sneaky performer on synthesizers and ten string electric guitar. It is best if I remain modest. None of the musical tracks have been edited or reworked. Much of the verbal dialogue between tracks were edited out; so that what you are left with is almost 60 minutes of non stop music. As ussual, the track titles serve as a guide to the music played. This is certainly not fluff music or entertainment. We don't play that kind of stuff! Although the music present here might sound different than the maintstream stuff, I assure you that every fragment ...
