Racy Australian band Machine Gun Fellatio delivers another set of provacatively titled alternative tracks with this album. BRING IT ON features songs including "Mutha Fukka On A Motorcycle," "Horny Blonde Forty," and "Butter My Arse With A Pigeon."
From the opening track, "100 Fresh Disciples," in which lead singer Pinky Beecroft imagines himself the leader of a brainwashed sect over a hip-hop beat and guitar solo, Machine Gun Fellatio know that they're destined for cult success. Perhaps it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Bring It On! has the MOR-defying funky kinkiness of early Prince enjoying a ménage à trois with dance music and dirty rock & roll. Not-quite instrumentals like "Mojo Pumping," "Smooth Sexy Monkey," and "45" carry on the tradition of the doof-doof music that was only just going out of fashion at the time with simple vocal loops, sequenced drums, and bleep breaks. "Manywords" (later adapted into the theme song for Love Is a Four-Letter Word) is pure trip-hop reminiscent of Portishead when they sounded their most like a bedroom soundtrack. The band's obsession with sex peaks with "Horny Blonde Forty," which begins with Beecroft using his sultriest voice to read from imaginary personal ads where a "Horny blonde, 40, wants to do it all day/With a gun-toting, trigger-happy trannie named Kinky Renae," which was borrowed by the Whitlams for their hit single "No Aphrodisiac." Just like Ween, MGF had a gift for surprising you with an effective love song in the midst of their most oddball efforts. After an album of post-house-party alley sex, madness, weirdness, and drugs, they suddenly change tacks for "Unsent Letter." The song itself is a love letter never to be mailed, a straightforward bittersweet love song that sits comfortably among the best pop music Australian bands have ever produced. As Beecroft sang back at the beginning of the album, "I'm not afraid of romance," and he meant it. Underneath all the swearing and drug references that made songs like "Mutha Fukka on a Motorcycle" controversial alt-radio hits, there's genuine songcraft to MGF and it's on display in Bring It On! more than anywhere else in their brief discography. ~ Jody Macgregor
Sydney alternative funk act, best known for their single 'Mutha Fukka On A Motorcycle'. They raised the ire of student union leaders in Australia while performing at Melbourne University when singer Christa Hughes, aka KK Juggy, removed her top and cartwheeled around the stage. 'I'm a cabaret artist. I like to think of it as a bit of a tribute to the old-style burlesque performers', she said. Future shows at the university were cancelled. Machine Gun Fellatio Bring It On! Bring It On! CD music
$6.25 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles ...

| | Incredible Jazz Guitar Of Wes Montgomery CD (1960) SACD Hybrid
Bring It On! CD music
$15.19 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
John "Wes" Montgomery taught himself to play at the age of nineteen and created a style as influential to jazz guitar as was Charlie Christian's to an earlier generation. Recorded in the early part of his solo career, THE INCREDIBLE JAZZ GUITAR OF WES MONTGOMERY defined standards for hard bop guitar which are as cogent today as they were in 1960.
The album jumps out with the quartet hustling through Sonny Rollins' "Airegin," where Wes performs his often imitated licks with grace and agility. His extended phrases, thematic development, harmonic and melodic embellishment come together in a formidable technique with a heavy swing. An impressive use of octaves and chords coupled with the rejection of a guitar pick in favor of his own thumb allowed Wes' guitar to sing with warmth and with beauty. The lyrical rendition of "Polka Dots And Moonbeams" and his own "D-Natural ...
| | Chris Botti Slowing Down The World CD (1999)
Bring It On! music CDs
$12.05 Those who heard Chris Botti playing live in the 1990s realized just how much he had going for him as a trumpeter -- not only an appealing sound (sort of a combination of Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Art Farmer, and Chuck Mangione) and sizable chops, but also a lot of warmth and charisma. Botti's studio recordings, meanwhile, were decent, even though they fell short of his potential. Like his previous efforts, Botti's third album, Slowing Down the World, consists primarily of mellow, light pop-jazz designed for the adult contemporary audience. This is unchallenging music, and yet it would be a major mistake to lump it in with the outright elevator muzak that Kenny G, Dave Koz, Najee, and Richard Elliot were known for. Caressing ...
