Silence (Remixes) album
$14.39 Shakira's brand new English album She Wolf is an uptempo pop album. It is all about synthesizers and electronic concepts, all mixed with the world sounds that we are used to from Shakira.. sounds from countries like India, the Middle East and her home country of Colombia. She Wolf features a predominantly English track list with a follow up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish to come in 2010. The title track "She-Wolf " boasts the infectious and energizing sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/ electronic beat (about 125 beats per minute). Though most tracks on the upcoming album will be in English, Shakira chose to service the Spanish version of the first single, "Loba", two weeks before the English single is launched.
Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained ...

| | Rihanna Rated R CD (2009)
Silence (Remixes) album
$14.64 "Russian Roulette," released weeks prior to Rated R, just hinted at Rihanna's sudden desire to provoke. Even with the realization that it is metaphorical, the song startles with its hesitant gasps, spinning cylinders, and verses that are glacially paced, where a cold piano line and the slight inflections in Rihanna's voice are front and center. And then there's an audible shudder followed by a discharged bullet -- the abrupt end to one of Rated R's most restrained moments. It's not the only instance where Rihanna's rise in fame, combined with being the victim in the decade's highest-profile felonious assault, added up to a perfect-storm scenario for a creative overhaul. Rated R is more like Good Girl Gone Evil, or Abused Girl Full of Vengeful Rage, not Good Girl Gone Bad, where the only casualties were some dishes. The closest the set gets to upbeat pop is "Rude Boy," and by any standard it is stern; needless to say, there is quite ...
| | Very Best Of The Spinners CD (1993)
Silence (Remixes) CD music
$8.19 The Spinners were rivaled only by the O'Jays as the greatest Philly soul group, and for that matter the greatest vocal group of the '70s. For listeners who don't want to dig as deeply as the excellent double-CD anthology One of a Kind Love Affair, Rhino's The Very Best of the Spinners is a stellar single-disc career summary that offers a concentrated dose of the group's sweet soul magic. It also serves as a primer on the best work of Thom Bell, Philly soul's "other" great producer besides the legendary Gamble & Huff team. Incredibly, every one of the 16 tracks here -- culled from 1970-1980 -- reached the R&B Top Ten, and half went all the way to number one on either the pop or R&B lists. As this collection demonstrates, the Spinners' massive popularity was well-deserved. ...
| | Girls Against Boys Sexy Sam CD (1994)
Silence (Remixes) music CDs
$6.29 SEXY SAM/I'M FROM FRANCE includes three bonus tracks taken from the LPs 90'S VS. 80'S, TROPIC OF SCORPIO, and VENUS LUXURE NO. 1 BABY.
Principally recorded at Southern Studios, Chicago, Illinois and Oz Studios, Baltimore, Maryland, in 1993.
From the opening staccato bassline of "Sexy Sam," this 1994 Girls Against Boys EP roars out of the speakers with the ferocity Nineties vs. Eighties hinted at but was sidetracked on Tropic of Scorpio and ultimately perfected with Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby.
"Sexy Sam" aside, the EP is comprised of tracks lifted from previously released records: Nineties vs. Eighties, Tropic of Scorpio, and Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby. While it was never released as part of a proper Girls Against Boys record, "Sexy Sam" is also available as a live cut on the band's 1995 Kill the Sexplayer EP. With the decidedly split personality of "I'm From France," Girls Against Boys forgo their usual screaming distortion and bass thump onslaught in favor of verses constructed of crystal-clear guitar, mellow bass, and xylophone-esque keyboards. The eternally raspy, Marlboro Red-voiced McCloud coyly sing-speaks his way through fluffy lyrics, like "I'm from France/That's why I dance/Ooh la la," before the chorus barges in with mean, fuzzy guitars and decidedly darker lyrics, like "That's just the way I am/There's too many people inside." With its eerie lounge atmosphere, "I'm From France" serves ...
